Gentlemen. Now is not the time to curse NZDF for the crimes committed by one man, that is part of a political class full of stupid and that’s generalised right across the world.
Among the public there has been a great deal of outrage pushed by MSM mostly about defence acquisitions and ambulance chasing because scandal sells. If you read through MSM literature around NZDF there is a constant reframe – no one can understand why casualties occurre. The public is a game amongst the celebrity outrage culture aptly titled MSM so the public just don’t care. Ok so a village was torched, who cares? It was never an issue amongst NZDF while attitudes at home are carefully monitored and crafted. So on the eve of the 2007 election John Key said categorically that NZDF wouldn’t participate in the Afghan quagmire (still holding the west back after 16 years of total failure) And then got busy doing everything he could to appease American interests and restart P5+1 agreement that included America and became the TPP.
So if caucus happened to create parallel courts called investor state disputes tribunals we where handing democracy over to one or the other. In fact most people voted against there own interests and consciously because they new it didn’t mater much.
NZDF is not totally blameless. They where put in what every one agrees is the grave yard of empires by a totally inept Prime Minister. All NZDF can do is act on that advice.
Brilliant!
I wish I’d known about it so I could’ve covered it for a story!
Lest we forget , as well ,…
The civilians are in charge of the military except in a dictatorship, – not the other way round.
And if the civilians are not happy with whats gone on , they have every right to say so. And that includes dropping leaflets .
I am ashamed that my Army has not stood up for acting with transparency here, as government obviously persuaded my army to keep the action under wraps as it would damage the Government during the election.
Very sad, as my military time I was indoctrinated to take the honest moral high ground and fight for human dignity & justice above all.
I was a National Servicemen in the Vietnam era.
