Budget 2017 – the sweep it under the carpet budget

While the mainstream pundits fawn all over the Government for this election bribe masquerading as a budget, here are some quick thoughts…

  • ‪The extra money to beneficiaries is meaningless when you consider most beneficiaries aren’t getting their full entitlements now!
  • So that $11 extra a week will buy half a smashed avocado on toast in Parnell – well that’s worth an underfunded health and education system
  • Watching various tribes on Twitter celebrating the crumbs off Nationals table from the budget reminds you how tamed we have become – crumbs won’t fix NZ
  • The increased amounts into housing allowance is just a subsidy for landlords anyway and will probably actually justify a new round of rent hikes.

This budget is an illusion, just like national’s supposed 34 000 new homes.

$11 a week tax cut is nothing when we have grossly underfunded public services that will still be screaming after the tiny amounts they’ve been given.

$11 a week in our collective pocket won’t stop our suicide rate.

$11 a week in our collective pocket won’t feed quarter of a million kids in Poverty.

$11 a week in our collective pocket won’t help mental health.

$11 a week in our collective pocket won’t stop 10 000 people in prison.

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

$11 a week in our collective pocket won’t do a damned thing to ease the Housing crisis.

This is a sweep it under the carpet budget, just like everything this Government does. It only looks good because Labour and the Greens have such incredibly small visions.

After all those years borrowing billions to afford tax cuts for the richest NZers, National finally hand crumbs to us and want a standing ovation.

Here’s the National Debt right now

…and here’s the graph National never want you to see…

…$11 in the pocket extra each week after 8 years of underfunding and subsidising Dairy to pollute our rivers is nothing to fucking celebrate.

It’s sickening seeing the mainstream media cheering.

TDB will carry the Child Poverty Action Group post-budget breakfast to fully appreciate the scale of nothing National have done.

  1. Well, it is early hours, so I can forgive the above, simplistic summary.

What we have got is an ELECTION BRIBE BUDGET for the middle class, nothing more or less, tax and some income benefits for those working as from 1 APRIL 2018, that is, if you vote for National, you can expect this, should they win, that is the simple message.

They have even sent the same message to those suffering from housing cost stress, dependent on the Accommodation Supplement. But the increases offered, again only from 1 April next year, do not come as a full unconditional increase. Those on benefits will in too high numbers already depend on TAS that is called temporary additional support, certainly many in high rent Auckland.

So check the speech by Finance Bandit Minister Joyce on the Hansard tomorrow, he said clearly, those that will “benefit” from this Supplement increase will be “less dependent on temporary additional support”. What the hell does that mean, yes, it means, abatement systems remain in place, you may be entitled as from 1 April next year to a higher Accommodation Supplement, but that will reduce your entitlement for TAS, so you get NO extra income at all.

That is how they mislead the public again and again the National Party liars, they offer increases on one hand, and take it away at the same time with the other hand. It is beyond belief that even the MSM do not pick up on this, but they may not bother to know, as beneficiaries are the least and lowest mortals, deserving of NADA.

So even John Campbell on RNZ let Joyce get away with his propaganda and did not pick up on this. So few know anything about the realities of the benefit system, and most do not care one bit of shit anyway, as long as they may be a few dollars better off.

The tax threshold lifts will benefit some, but also will some lose benefits, like the so called independent earner tax credit, that low income earners were so far entitled to.

The ‘investment approach’ is also more spin than reality, as we know, it is not ‘worklessness’ that makes people sick and dysfunctional, it is POVERTY:

So the spin rules the airwaves, the media, the middle class will think, hey, I want more for myself, fuck the rest, and vote National next election, unless Labour and Greens finally present a valid, convincing alternative.

  2. “This is a sweep it under the carpet budget, just like everything this Government does. It only looks good because Labour and the Greens have such incredibly small visions.”

Well, Labour and Greens have NO excuse anymore, to not present new policy, and new budget projections alongside these. They have just about 4 months to get their alternative vision and program presented, so get the damned hell on with it, Andrew and James and Metiria.

No more excuses for the figures you may not know, the bla, bla, bla, get on with it, and present a feasible and bold alternative for us, we are waiting. Start perhaps by exposing the Nat’s budget for it is, an Election Year Budget, and nothing else, no matter what lies they tell the public.

Expose the rot and lies, but at the same time present an alternative, and do NOT shy away, do NOT scream, Nats stole our policy, because if they do, be bold, and say, good, see, we told you, at least you do what we need our people to have.

  3. I’m unsure how any of these ‘budget treats’ are actually going impress any one to vote National who wasn’t already going to vote for them (those conservative zombies).

    • Tax cuts is not a good way of hitting inlation targets because blinglish wants to warehouse 7.2 billion in the OBEGAL surplus so you give a 5-7 billion tax cut and then take 5-7 billion out of the New Zealand economy and then say grow the economy. Its nuts!

    • Yep, all smoke and mirrors from the master propagandist SS Joyce while Rome burns and we melt into the sea when the icecaps melt like the movie “waterworld”.

“…$11 in the pocket extra each week after 8 years of underfunding and subsidising Dairy to pollute our rivers is nothing to fucking celebrate.”

I went to a NZ First public gathering last week and boy they have vision there, but the greens are very slack at firing up as if they don’t give a toss???
I get Labour emails on their policies but not much yet from Greens.

Do they know an election is looming???

      • I was getting shit loads of e messages from Greens and Russel Norman. Its good when they respond in person but if its an automated response I start looking at my brain

  4. Call off the general election its a waste of money.

The National party have just won the 2017 poll.

  5. Rents will go up more under Labour’s proposal to ring fence rental losses.

    Vote Labour for Higher Rents

    • Spoken like a true blue Nact supporter.

But unfortunately rents have increased rapidly under National, something you’ve forgotten Mr Anonymous Nact supporter. Rents are already unafordable in Auckland.

    • Spoken like a true Blue Bankster supporter also.

I like simple things. I like me because I’m a simple thing. I do simple tasks which give me simple pleasures which appeal to my simple mind. I see great beauty in simplicity and I know simple little things like me because they bite me when I show bare flesh to them. Oh, how we laugh as I make them a simple stain on my simple skin. I have a simple car, I live in a simple house and I talk and act like a simpleton. I know and love my simple friends and I have an amazing female human front bottom special cuddles partner to co-exist with and as we do so, our conversations are simple affairs of the heart where the words ‘ darling’, ‘love’, ‘you’ and “Yes please x A nice cup of tea and a ginger nut biscuit would be another simple pleasure of a winters evening, as would kissing, so come here you gorgeous little minx? “

I also like simple facts, Facts that are not too draining on my simple imagination. For you see? Two things together which are similar are confusing to me? Which apple to eat first? Will I be pleasantly surprised by the last apple because, compared to the first one, the second one was shit? Or bitterly disappointed because the first apple was more pleasurable than the last one, so I should have been more thankful for the first one when I ate it. The rub is that I’ll never know which apple will be better until I eat them both therefore, I’m doomed to be disappointed. See? Not so simple.

The simple stevie joyce is two shit apples. Just which one’s more shit???

His entire and frankly pathetic budget was a farcical swindle to hand ever more of our money, via a convoluted litany of lies and logical fallacies, back to the Banks. The foreign owned banks.
Our money. Yours and mine, is being administered, to benefit the foreign Banks, by a dull apple. Where’s the peeler?
      It’s that simple.

  6. The people to whom this budget is targeted don’t give a continental about the problems of dirty rivers, mental health, housing shortages or child poverty.
The people to whom this budget is targeted are the unabashed “middle class” of NZ – what we here call the sleepy hobbits.
This budget will draw them back towards National like bees to honey.
I wish I could say otherwise, but in my heart I sadly have to admit that National have probably just won the election with this budget.
It won’t do anything to cure the social ills that this government have inflicted on us over the last nine years, but National never meant it to, they meant it to give them a fourth term and that’s all.
It is a nakedly blatant vote grab, to keep the sleepy hobbits on their side. Sadly it will very probably work.

  7. Break it down to this; the so called money that appears to be going to lower income people is going to go straight to the housing investors in rent rises.

All Joyce has done is prop up the housing market with tax payer money that we cannot afford.

Quite how underfunded public services are going to carry supposedly delivering services on with even less tax revenue is beyond me. But as National have done before, they claw it back or borrow more.

  8. Golly are we ever being brainwashed. The only thing we have to look forward to is the meteor en route now expected to hit the Pacific leaving NZ nothing but a small rock sticking up out of the sea.

  9. Serious question – I see in the graph below the national debt in 2012 is approaching $50 billion, but the ticker above shows 92 billion. Is this because it skyrocketed even more to almost double between 2012-2017? Both figures seem to be NZD. It’s not that I don’t believe the graph (because I do) but just wondering how 50 billion in 2012 could end up at 92 in 2017? The whole “excuse” for Key was the GFC. Christchurch is still in ruins so that can’t account for that level of spending.

  10. I am an Act Supporter and I totally understand Capitalism and its incredible merits. (WHEN DONE PROPERLY) This disgusting disgraceful if a incompetent inebriated stinky government has no idea what capitalism is, or even free markets.

This sick evil crony Capitalism funding their weird mates , the housing market is not taxed and now they have the audacity to add more tax money to the accommodation supplement to go directly back into the landlords like a feed back loop. They should literally be hanged for high crimes.

They think they know capitalism – yet they have a regulation system which makes sure old business models are kept, they fund Motorways as if its a capitalist idea. It is not capitalist to put money in motorways its a political decision. I am so angry with National MPs who don’t understand Capitalism and need to vacate their seats to people who do. (Starting with Jamie lee Ross piece of junk)

Under the Free market model we must vote for a change in Government. Why. Because the free-market works in the right situations the first being: a level playing field . we have to go left before we can go right again.

Labours Policy’s are our only chance for a real county in this election. I love Capitalism and free-markets and that is why I will support New Zealand First / Labour collation.
train young people to have a job, look after health for young, care for people, make housings and then in 15 years we may be able to have a real economy where people are free to use their abilities to improve man kind!

  12. As per usual, high income earners will benefit the most Joyce’s tax cuts. National never changes its spots

  13. If you want money, provide value.

Or find a desk “job” in the state sector.

You can whine about the “gummit” not “giving” you enough.

    But that will never work.

Venuzuela are the latest exponents of that theory.

    • What about your position on Costa Rica, Uruguay perhaps, you seem to pick the example that suits your agenda, but close your eyes to where other countries have liberal or left of centre governments in that region, that do fairly well, at least have done so for decades.

Venezuela is a failed project for a number of reasons, one being over dependence on one commodity that is exported, petroleum. Having failed to diversify the economy, and having also faced still economic opposition from the US and some international banking organisations that has not helped.

  14. I still haven’t seen any evidence that the Govt has paid off any of the debt, despite making it 1 of 3 promises that they had in their advertising campaigns at the last election… (I actually laid a complaint at the time to the advertising authority that this was misleading, because of the fact that treasury had indicated that debt would continue to increase).

  15. Playing to the greedies as usual. Nothing there to help the average Kiwi battler doing it hard 24/7.

I haven’t voted Labour since the filthy scourge of the Douglas years, voting Alliance, then Greens since. However I think I will be voting Labour this year, leaving the Greens to carry on as they are, turning a murky shade of blue!
