Selling farmland to China highlights madness of free market Government

Nothing highlights the madness of the free market capitalism we so fervently cling to here in NZ than our Government selling farm land to China…

NZ taxpayer owned farm sold to Chinese, upsets Fiordland locals

ONE News has learned the overseas investor outbid a local farmer to buy Jericho station, about 40km from Te Anau.

The Southland farmer had offered around $8.5 million for the sheep and beef operation, which is almost 1400ha.

The Overseas Investment Office will now have to sign off the sale, because farmland is deemed “sensitive”.

Landcorp chief executive Steve Carden confirmed the sale.

“We have got a buyer from offshore who has put in the most attractive bid and that is the one we are pursuing at the moment,” he said.

It’s the first time Landcorp has sold a farm to an overseas investor.

…the only guiding principle of Landcorp in this issue has been making the most money, as if the pennies that can be created today justify the loss of the land for the future. Our economic sovereignty  can not be maintained if we sell our most productive land to overseas investors, it’s as simple as that.

To allow farm land to be sold is like slicing up the Golden Goose that is providing you with the Golden bloody Eggs!

It is cases like this that Winston will use to justify turning the immigration debate into a claim of colonisation.

The Free Market is only mad if you’re not the one making money from it. And there are an increasing number of people losing to the rules of the game. Therefore, it’s money, or rather the greed for it that is the problem with the free market. And who peddles money and debt within a ‘ free market’ economy? The Banks. The banks ,are, in fact, the so called ‘ free market’. Perhaps the least free market anywhere in the world and beyond. Ask anyone over-leveraged with a gargantuan mortgage debt how free they think their market is?
The ‘ free market’ is bullshit. It’s a bullshit story made up by bullshit artists making money off the hard work and gullibility of others. It’s, in fact, a swindle. Selling off our primary export making real estate is a swindlers lunacy and the Banks couldn’t give one small flying fuck because hey ! Money ! And money is good.

    • This bloody corrupt Government will go down in history as the most reckless of our countries history forcing us to become tenants in our own land and that is a surety the way it’s going so this is to all you young 16 to 24yr old’s you’d better not vote for a government who is actively selling your own future now if you vote them back in September!!!!!!

  2. If you dare criticise this, you instantly get labelled a xenophobe or racist. That is how the cunning government gets away with doing this, same as they have for years been laissez faire with selling residential and business real estate up for sale on the market.

They want globalisation and a divide and rule society, hence also the liberal rules for immigration, which have only recently been tightened, but then impacting more on the poor and not so highly qualified immigrants.

The more division on the labour market, the business sector, the more control the elite has, serving the interests of the rich and powerful, at all times.

People in NZ have become so silent on this, they dare not say what they think anymore, as PC kind of dictatorship has been imposed on them.

One day though the pressure may get too much, and there may be an explosion of anger, like there once was when we had the Queen Street Riot.

Having done my shopping a couple of days ago, I saw how prices in the supermarket are now rising across the board, and I wonder, how can low earners still survive in Auckland. Surely, this will not end well, same as things going downhill in some regions in the country.

  3. Dose it matter who owns the land?
If they obey our environmental laws (sorry ha ha ha) , and pay taxes, then WTF.
It is going to do nothing for people sleeping in their cars, or the people on minimum wage or social welfare etc.
New Zealanders have done a great job of stuffing up our land, maybe it’s someone elses turn now, they couldn’t do much worse.
In the end we are all planet fuckers.
It just as bad having say Jenny Shipley rape our country as maybe Zhou Qunfei, it is still rape no matter the colour of the member )

    • We all need jobs – if other countries use their own people and their own suppliers and sell the food in their own markets, then the income of the NZ government and people goes away…

So they put up taxes, but under tax agreements most off shore firms don’t have to pay much taxes, so increasingly financial prosperity of NZ is compromised. You can’t have a ‘free market’ where locals pay 1/3 income in taxes or more and other businesses making up more and more of the country claim losses and get rebates.

This leads to further poverty, social unrest and so forth. Meanwhile 30% of the population poisoned by P.

In China, they have the death penalty. Prisoners are harvested for organs, the family are expected to pay for the bullet of the executed prisoners. There is no democracy, there is no welfare, the ruling party has all the power.

So increasingly that is where the discourse will be going. It’s pretty easy to see that once NZ population reaches another million of migrants, then the old style Kiwi democracy will be overthrown by new voters and a new way of looking at the world and the people in it – which is coloured by what they grew up with and the belief system they have.

Quasi capitalism under communism. Not sure if that is the best of both worlds.

Even the right wingers should be getting alarmed.

It doesn’t have to be this way. I’m all for good relations with all countries, China, India, US, USSR and EU and everyone in between.

But it is colonisation when the locals become outnumbered and have lost power…. that is where NZ is headed with the Yokels and fake market economic policy wonks in the helm selling cheap to the highest bidder.

      • But it is colonisation when the locals become outnumbered and have lost power ………

Maybe we should all get together at ummmm ? Waitangi, we could sign an agreement with the Chinese, or maybe a treaty?

        • Newcomers have the free trade agreements as their ‘treaty’ and the title deeds and resource consents as ownership of land, resources and so forth.

That’s all they need for power – that is their ‘treaty’.

  4. On the other hand this sort of thing has been going on for decades now. Huge stations in the North Island have also been sold to Americans, Canadians and whoever. There is some tutt tutting and general grumblings about it, but nothing ever changes under ANY government.
The reality is that we are a small country and successive governments have encouraged “investment” (aka foreign corporation takeovers) and the result is that large swathes of land are owned by foreigners. Some of whom use it for productive purposes and put some of the profits back into NZ but a lot simply sit on it for capital gain.
It is another issue that needs some cross party support to achieve a workable policy that strikes a balance between freedom to trade and prevention of foreign exploitation of NZ resources.
I doubt whether we could get such agreement.

  5. But we have to allow overseas investors to buy nz land because we want the wealthiest .5 of 1% in NZ to be able to buy holiday homes in other countries.
Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair. Nats and Labour think that the cost (50% of kiwi families priced out of home ownership) is worth it.

  6. NZ Government still haven’t tidied up the mess they created with the theft and sale of Maori Land in the 1800’s and 1900’s and can’t wait to on sell Land & Survey Blocks which probably have had a dodgy sales history in the past also ?

Guess we have to pay for the interest on Government borrowing some how ?

  8. Can we buy farmland in China? No. Case closed. Money isn’t everything and as the population of the world increases and the value of fiat money decreases the value of productive land will sky rocket. The Chinese play a long game and good on them, but that is why we have a government. To play the long game on our behalf because as individuals we want to maximise our personal wealth . It does not appear that the NZ Government realise this.

    • Nope but under our free trade agreement with China, we are NOT allowed to stop Chinese (and probably all other nations in the free trade agreements) from buying land.

The canny Chinese, have a like for like apparently. So Chinese and Kiwis can’t buy land in China. Chinese and Kiwis CAN both buy land in NZ.

The free trade agreements are not about trade, they are about people trafficking of workers and the uninterrupted capitalist trade in resources without local controls.

In short, plunder and leave the environmental, social and economic mess to the locals to sort out.

  9. To add to my previous comment. Can we print money to buy farmland in the USA. No. The Federal Reserve has been “printing money” buying stocks and bonds to hold up the precarious US economy. The benefactors of this are the financial elite in the USA and Europe and so they too should be excluded from buying NZ farmland. The USA national debt of $20 Trillion amounts to $2,666 for every man, woman and child on this PLANET. Any realistic valuation of the American dollar given that $1 represents one share in the American economy (one share of -$20 Trillion) means that the American dollar is worthless so why are world currencies valued relative to this and why would we accept this as payment for valuable farmland? Yes I know there are positive assets as well but they are in private hands and would not be available to offset this astronomical debt.

    • There’s $12 trillion of US household debt to add the the $20 T their govt has borrowed on their behalf Ken.

  10. So we flick off ‘our’ land for bullshit. It is bought by mum and dad investors in China, U$A or wherever?, via BS retirement scams (Kiwisaver for example).
Then the global economy goes into the toilet around the S bend and out to sea.
Can the owners of ‘our’ land take it away? Will China/U$A etc bring troops/THAD missile systems into NZ to protect the landowners?
So when the whole game goes tits up, the planes stop flying, the grain harvest stops, leading to mass starvation, deaths and mass civil unrest ala http://www.22After.com will it matter? na

    • trouble is the average Kiwi is brainwashed to the extreme and simply things this is all about free choice by valued free choice exercising free individuals, the young generation Y or Zero that Martyn so vehemently defends at times , is our worst enemy, they are the dumbest and most brain washed generation there ever was, there is NO hope with them to improve things.
