MEDIAWATCH: The mainstream media lie about Willie Jackson

It was amazing watching so many supposedly ‘liberal’ twitter accounts gleefully attacking Willie Jackson last night based on a story from corporate media pundit Vernon Small that Willie Jackson had thrown a wobbly and flown to Wellington to get a higher place on the Party list.

This manipulation by corporate media shows how shallow those on Twitter can really be and highlights the ease with which narratives can be manipulated.

The  truth is that Willie Jackson (who was this morning announced as the Campaign Manager for the Maori electorates) had flown to Wellington last night, not to try and gain a higher place for himself, he wanted to challenge the Labour Leadership over why there were no Maori at all in the top 15.

Labour need to win Maori voters over if they have any chance of getting to 35% in the election and they will be fighting hard against the Maori/MANA alliance and resurgent Green ambition.

The ease with which Willie’s concerns about Maori representation in the top 15 became an ego driven rampage all concocted from a mainstream media story that was gleefully echoed by the Identitarian factions on Twitter who are still smarting over Jackson being a candidate in the first place, does however give real insight into how the puritans within Labour would still prefer to lose the election than allow working class Maori inside the tent.

The loudest critics on the Twitter left are also those with comfy Wellington jobs and have the resource to survive another 3 years of National. Actual working class people however don’t have that fucking luxury.

All this election, as the real chance of a change of Government increases, expect the corporate media to spin lies as filthy as they were when they were all secretly in cahoots with Slater. They are the mouthpieces of the elites and they love telling you that the Opposition are in disarray. That’s their job.

  1. So they withheld the list release for nothing, and Willie isn’t actually a blustering boofhead at all…. right.

At the very least, he gave fodder to the scandal-mongers. Great choice, Labour.

    • The whole episode is just too funny!

The unions dictate who the Labour leader is, against the wishes of the caucus. So the caucus use the opportunity for utu by undermining the leader in the list selection process.

Fit to run the country? Yeah Right!

      • Why should unions, who only had 20% of the vote, vote for who caucus wants? Kind of defeats the democratic process doesn’t it if you vote for who you’re told to vote for? The result was close 50.52% to 49.48%, if one MP had voted differently, Roberston would have won, so using your spin, you could say that caucus ‘dictated’ the result.

        • Hes a great thinker, is our ANDREW, … the fact that’s pretty much always wrong doesn’t stop him from getting straight ‘ A’s for trying, however.

Neo liberals love a tryer …. so they say…

          It keeps them in clover.

      • My goodness you have a delusional idea about the power that unions have, they do not decide who the leader is at all.

      • The unions dictate who the Labour leader is, against the wishes of the caucus

No, Andrew, that is not correct.

You’re either pissing around playing silly buggers, or you’re truly ignorant how Labour’s leader is elected. I’m not sure which is worse.

Anyway, as per usual, the only ‘value’ of your comments is to illustrate (and reinforce!) just how un-educated some right-wingers are.

        Carry on.

  2. Hell Martyn,

I would never believe anything Nactional pundits say it is like falling into quicksand doing that.

This Nactional junta has only one policy now and they will constantly demean anyone who is a threat to them no matter if they are brilliantly constructive as Willie Jackson is.

We desperately need you there and Willie, as Nactional have taken over all of TVNZ/RNZ broadcasting content now and are heavily censoring the content to remove any “negative statements about their policies and performance.

Is there time for Labour/Green/NZ First and others to place an application to be filed in the High Court for taking over half of the Public Broadcasting Media through TVNZ/RNZ for the public interest in ensuring a fair balanced public broadcasting ahead of September General Election???

    • It would be a good idea for Clean to come clean with the evidence he/she has about the censorship by the government of RNZ and TVNZ as this is dynamite.
Publishing this evidence will ensure that National is dumped by voters in September as Kiwi’s won’t tolerate it.
Take this opportunity to ensure a change of government.

      • Well , criminals are convicted on circumstantial evidence.

It is ‘ circumstantial evidence’ that Stephen Joyce , – who was once owner of TV3 – could use his intimate media contacts to slant events and opinions in the National party favour..

        …………………………………………..

” Steven Leonard Joyce (born 7 April 1963) is a New Zealand politician, who entered the New Zealand House of Representatives in 2008 as a member of the New Zealand National Party. In the same year he became Minister of Transport and Minister for Communications and Information Technology. He later became Minister of Science and Innovation, and now serves as Minister for Finance and Minister for Infrastructure.

As a broadcasting entrepreneur with RadioWorks he was a self-made millionaire before he entered politics.”

        Steven Joyce – Wikipedia
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Joyce

        ………………………………………….

It is also ‘ circumstantial evidence ‘ that with Joyce’s previous industry contacts that this could occur :

‘By the beginning of 2015, MediaWorks, the company that owns TV3, was unhappy with the show. Social (and some mainstream) media was alive with conjecture that the company bosses were close to the government and thought there was an anti-government bias in the show. (As Herald media analyst John Drinnan reported, MediaWorks chief executive Mark Weldon was a friend of the Prime Minister, and board member Julie Christie, who also had an executive role overseeing programme development, was close to other cabinet members.) Others said the CEO and board just didn’t like Campbell Live.’

        …………………………………………..

And it is particularly pertinent , – that at that time ‘Campbell Live’ had been doing some very revealing documentary’s about the illegal surveillance and arrest of Kim Dotcom that definitely made John Key and the National govt look extremely shady.

Almost as shady as using the music of the real Slim Shady for the National party’s last election campaign , – to which they ( National) now find themselves in court over.

      • Thanks Patrick
This begun before the last election in 2014

Joe has another swist on the continuing efforts of Natioal to muzzle the Media.

The Prime Ministers office enforcing censorship on mainstream media By Joe Trinder on August 14, 2015·

The 2014 censorship case is under construct, and will go to print at the time best suited for getting aired and covered widely.

The actual Management Memo came out then and was circulated around all employees and was mentioned VERY briefly in the news but no one then paid much attention then sadly.

The Management stated that all articles concerning Government activities and journalists reports would be covered under a review panel for “authenticity” and was to be modified as to negativity then.

Copies of the memo were displayed then and we and others have some.

    • I agree Cleangreen – no matter what channel/radio station you turn to there is someone spouting forth the great and wonderful that is National and at every turn denigrating or sneering at Labour being disorganised or whatever is negative they can dredge up.

Just today I heard the sports jock on the AM morning show on TV3 giving a free commercial for National, denigrating Labour about Willie’s “so called” tantrum and how disorganised that Labour was, he even suggested that Labour had probably deliberately had the video of Pike River leaked as an election ploy to upset National being election year. I couldn’t believe my ears how disgraceful his comment was – a disgrace to the families and the lost miners and a disgrace to the channel that allowed such comments to be aired.

Being election year surely there should be equal time allowed for the major parties comments to be aired – at least some balance in the reporting of “news” – how intelligent people can listen to this drivel is beyond me – its a bloody insult to the sensibilities of listeners. Somebody please, who has the financial means, for the sake of the democracy of this country buy airtime on a channel or a radio wave so we can have some intelligent balance in the affairs of our country.

We used to be a country where everybody got a fair go – what a bloody laugh that is these days.

    • This is complete nonsense. If the Opposition attempted anything like what you think they should do they would be rightly regarded as a bunch of crazies.

  3. Sue Moroney is a loss for the Labour Party…a wasted solid Left Labour woman talent!…and imo more electable than Andrew Little and Jacinda Adern

‘Labour MP Sue Moroney to step down at 2017 election’

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/92061647/labour-mp-sue-moroney-to-step-down-at-2017-election

“Labour’s Sue Moroney will say goodbye to Parliament at election time.

The Hamilton-based MP has spent 12 years in Parliament but on Sunday announced her decision not to run again in September.

“I made my decision after being notified last night that I had lost support from the party’s ruling council for an electable position on the Labour Party list,” she said in a statement…

      • first they got rid of Annette King and now Sue Moroney…where are the serious experienced committed Labour Party middle aged women? ( extinguished)… ageism and sexism?

….make way for for youth and johnny -come- lately (s) to give Labour a new look

  4. Its a desperate attempt by lamestream to make up a story …how it broke to how it ended up? From a Crisis Meeting to what really happened, Little & Willie having a chat & Willie stating his case. Jo Moir the hack journo cried wolf? Willies not wrong. Parker & Mallard should be gone, Willie is bringing with him 16 maori radio stations to the party! He did get to be the Director of the Maori MP’s Campaign. Allgud in the end … another distraction from the Nat’s tanking RM poll result of 43%! GameOn!

    • Mallard should have got the boot, part of the old guard that are part of the problem in Labour.

    • Where do you get this idea that Willie is bringing 16 Maori radio stations with him. You can be sure that some people who listen to Radio Watea and others will vote for Mana and the Maori Party, they are not all going to fall over to Labour, who frankly have done so little in support of the issues that Maori face why would people vote for them.

  5. The Smallminded opinion pieces of hackery appeared several times with varied headlines, but all with the same anti Labour mischief making. How stupid do they think people are? Umm – don’t answer that.

  6. ‘The ease with which Willie’s concerns about Maori representation in the top 15 became an ego driven rampage all concocted from a mainstream media story that was gleefully echoed by the Identitarian factions on Twitter who are still smarting over Jackson being a candidate in the first place, does however give real insight into how the puritans within Labour would still prefer to lose the election than allow working class Maori inside the tent.

    ……………………………………….

Got it loud and clear , Sir ! Will do !!!

Those identitarian elites can go stuff their heads down a toilet and flush it til all the shit they speak runs dry.

    And then some !

  7. ‘corporate media pundit Vernon Small’ I have a lot of time for Vernon he is a very good journalist. I certainly have never ever regarded him as on the right politically.

I suspect some of what has been said is true, that Willie was very cross about his place. Frankly I thought it was a nonsense getting him on board. And if he wants to get on with getting in there then he is hardly going to say I am pissed off at my ranking. I see that the ex cop is well down the rankings which seems good to me, you know the man who wanted the force to all have guns so more people could be killed by them.

  8. Let me guess, ‘unconscious bias’ perhaps? Most in the MSM, certainly most editors and those in charge, appear to be white, middle to upper middle class NZers. They cannot easily comprehend how people from other cultural or ethnic groups may think and behave. Hence they prejudge such persons somewhat “alien” to them, by presuming they behave like they do themselves.

Willie Jackson may have thought as a Maori about the treatment of his people, before thinking about his own placement in the candidate rankings, but the MSM folk, described above, have not had the ability to understand and see this. They thought he would only think like a selfish individual such as themselves, the white, middle to upper middle class NZ MSM professional and careerist.

    https://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/ldc/researchers/opportunities/development_support/e_and_d/unconscious_bias/unconscious_bias_-2_june.pdf

“Unconscious bias refers to a bias that we are unaware of, and which happens outside of our control. It is a bias that happens automatically and is triggered by our brain making quick judgments and assessments of people and situations, influenced by our
background, cultural environment and personal experiences”

    (See slide 7)

  9. This non event and how it was covered by the media shows the hysteria they are willing to engage in when covering anything that is perceived as a crisis where the Labour party is concerned.

They will put a spin on anything that helps enforce the perception that the party is divided and can’t govern due to dysfunction and disunity.

It just shows once again that the old right wing propaganda tactics are still being applied to the parties of the left and the mountain they still have to climb to get into government.

Unfortunately Martyn they count on the public believing the ” bullshit “

  10. Listen to Andrew Little on yesterday’s morning report. Seems to confirm that Willie did discuss his position on the list. I thought Matt McCarten had sorted out all this foot shooting. Andrew Little in some urgent need of media training particularly on radio. Sounds like a distant fogwarn

    • Compared to Bill English, Little is like a soprano. English is the most droll politician in history and now a sad indictment of the intellect of N.Z.

His legacy, 90 billion and rising ( something to be proud of)
