Lot’s of chatter about why Paul Henry has been so offensive recently.
The reason is pretty simple, The Paul Henry Show hasn’t been rating well and he’s desperately trying to say things that will spark controversy so he can get some wider media attention and hopefully more ratings.
The problem is he doesn’t have the ability to play close to the line without stepping over it. With that dangerous combination, it’s just a matter of time before he goes too far, like he always does.
The goodwill that TV3 had created by its amazing news and Campbell Live’s crusading has all gone, and that goodwill is exacerbated by the perception that TV3 is now2 in the pocket of the Government.
People who care about news and current affairs see that perception as a reason to never watch again. The slumping ratings overall are a problem and plans to make Story more like Waatea 5th Estate, while flattering will fail as badly as the panel segment on Paul Henry. There are only so many times you can bring right wingers on screen like every other media network before you saturate the market and TV3 doesn’t have any left wingers left to counter that.
This week The Paul Henry show had Don Brash and Amber Peebles on their panel, with all due respect but a root canal with rusty tools would be more preferable than listening to that.

My little radio is easily made to move off the tuned channel which I was on earlier RNZ and there was an out of control burble going and it was Paul Henry on and he seemed to be on steroids!!!!
He is loosing it and very vile now.

I had the displeasure of seeing Henry on the Breakfast Show in Australia about 3 years ago.
What a toe curling cringing embarrassing experience that was.
The female Co host clearly couldn’t stand him and his puerile manner.
He didn’t last much longer after that. They got rid of him.
At least the Aussies recognize a smuck when they see one!!

Paul Henry is the ultimate shit parent. Remember when he put his daughter on TV and made her look like a dumbass before the election? I hope somebody called CYFs. However, in doing so, he finally made a reasonable case for sterilisation.

The CONTENT of what Henry says I can understand you might have issues with (given he gives John Key hand jobs under the table during their interviews), but calling the delivery “offensive” flies way above my head.

Used to watch the old morning news show on TV3 which I thought was very good. Just news. Simple. Now we’ve got that old git Paul Henry. He is way past his used by date. I tried watching Breakfast on One, but that show is so bad I couldn’t stand it.
Now it’s BFM Breakfast every morning.

I disagree Dixie – I feel that our Kiwiana culture deserves far better representation that Jono and Ben and the Paul Henry show. They give others the impression that we are a bit on the dumb side and swimming in ego rather than good ole honest humour that we all can laugh at and with.

A lot of this kind of entertainment is meant to intentionally keep the people mesmerized and a bit brain washed, kind of like the Fox News propaganda machine. I know seniors in the states who would not miss a Fox News show and they feel part of the Fox news family and that they are really hearing the truths about the world. Propaganda meant to sway and manipulate and keep people partially asleep, and to me, that is a bit sick.
Now Paul wants to support the Natz plan to sell the Auckland airport in order to build houses. More selling out of our resources and assets to try and fix a problem due to poor – piss poor – govt. leadership.
The Natz have no clue, no sound plans and their main plan is to sell off everything and leave us being tenants while others profit from our minerals, our water, our resources, our land and homes and our airports, prisons, and on and on.
