Cash for copy site – the supposed saviour of journalism – The blue/green millennial Spinoff has felt a certain amount of pressure recently over the blurry line between their cash for copy products and their copy…

…So The Spinoff doesn’t get paid by Bravo directly, but gets paid to blog about the sponsors they list. The problem of course is the blurry cross over point though isn’t it? On TDB we have clearly established advertising, you can see them on the right of this blog, but with a native advertising cash for copy site like The Spinoff you can never be too sure who is actually paying for it unless you specifically check the page that the Spinoff directs you to.

Also, payment doesn’t need to be cash does it? The fawning manner in which Duncan crawled over glass to defend Bravo could be because he needs that access to gossip to continue providing his TV site with TV content.

The Spinoff claims they stopped comments on their site to protect their female writers, while it is true the online world is terribly sexist, by banning comments the Spinoff also protects their clients.

The Spinoff are just new gatekeepers, policing language, identity and self interest for millennials. Their support of a right wing spin dr like Bill Ralston over Mike Lee highlights their generations lack of political compass while demanding the very privilege they are critical of in others. Their ‘war for Auckland’ is a battle cry for the same privilege boomers have by middle class millennials who want their own property speculation, not to help everyone locked out of home ownership.

The Unitary Plan does not help one single family living in a car right now. Period.

Knowing who is paying for what on The Spinoff is more important than who actually writes it. Their standard for Journalism seem to be about as high as your average beauty blog.

  1. “The Unitary Plan does not help one single family living in a car right now. Period.”

Equals = Auckland = the banana republic of the south pacific.

  2. ‘the piece by Hager, and published by TVNZ was found to be inaccurate, unbalanced and unfair.”…can we get a post on this? will not hold my breath!

    • I think you are confused, ‘Right’, this is NOT Kiwiblog or Whale-spew here, go and do another Google search, I am sure you will find your friends Farrar and that other character’s blogs soon enough to share your frustrations that are ill founded.

  3. Spinoff is like a planet spinning out of orbit, off into the galaxies and never to be seen again, wait and see how it will go under.

As for the above, I find it amusing that they even bothered commenting on this, it looks defensive, not quite so convincing.

But we should not forget to pay attention to what goes on at other media outlets also.

Yesterday (Sat. 24 Sept. 2016) I was as usual listening to RNZ’s ‘Focus on Politics’ program after the 5pm news. And yet again, it was almost a monologue by John Key, who was being interviewed on his trip to the UN and what he “achieved” there.

I could not believe it, there was again no comment offered by any opposition politician, as they were probably not even asked for this. There was just a very obedient, duty following female political commentator asking our Esteemed Dear Leader a few questions and allowing him to answer in a relaxed matter, with no hard questions asked.

It sounded almost like a fireplace chat at the PMs home, and gave the PM a perfect opportunity again, to present himself as “statesman”, although what he had to say was the usual waffling on.

I cannot believe it, that this “Focus on Politics” program, that used to be more balanced and present views and positions from both sides of the political spectrum, is now nothing much better than a government friendly program, presenting their view and policies.

This has over recent months happened before, where some government ministers were given the chance to comment on matters, with no opposition comments being broadcast along with it.

I note the same with the RNZ news, which are becoming more and more mainstream, that is compliant to the government’s kind of standards, avoiding anything that may be controversial or too challenging. It is presented by newsreaders that sound like some old style public relations person working for a bureaucracy tied down with total political correctness.

More and more crime reports are read out, the standard economic date reports and so forth, then comes sports, the weather and the next show.

Morning report has become rather tame, with some exceptions, and even John Campbell seems to avoid risking too much when questioning ministers of the government or other persons that should be asked the hard questions.

I checked the RNZ website for the audio of the last Focus on Politics show, but there is nothing to be found. Strange all this, it seems the dictatorship is slowly establishing its new order.

Prepare for Key to be “voted in” on questionable polls and one sided news for a fourth and fifth term. He may stay in the job until he retires at 65, I fear.

I call out, does anybody out there notice anything, or are too many brains already switched off?

    • I agree totally. RNZ is a shadow of what it used to be, but we all knew this would happen when dickheads like Richard Griffin and Paul Thompson are in charge. The Govt puts these puppets in there and we are stuck with the results until we get a change of govt. Such a change is not looking likely with the current mob in charge of Labour.
