What an unsurprising surprise…
Auckland CBD poll: 97% of Herald readers say city centre feels unsafe
A poll of Herald readers has found an overwhelming majority regard Auckland’s central city as an uninviting place full of anti-social behaviour.
More than 6100 people responded online to the question on our site: “Do you believe Auckland CBD has become an uninviting destination for the public beset by anti-social behaviour and neglect?”
And 97% responded yes.
The informal poll of readers follows a survey released last week of Auckland central businesses that found owners and offices believe homelessness, too few police, neglect and disorder and “frightening” anti-social behaviour are crippling their trade.
Among the most dire findings in the Heart of the City survey of 102 business owners were 91% saying that rough sleepers and begging were affecting their business, and 81% believing the city centre was not in a good state to attract significantly more people and investment.
…the only surprise is that the Central Auckland Business Community are surprised.
What did they think was going to happen?
When you underfund the outreach and safety nets, people fall over and we see that social failure all within the CBD. By ignoring mental health, poverty and homelessness, how can business flourish?
This Government have cut food services to Auckland City Mission, cut outreach programs for the homeless and made emergency housing more difficult to obtain, what the Christ did you think those actions would do?
This is the cruel Government you elected, watching the social carnage they have unleashed wash up onto your streets shutting down your ability to make money is a wonderful irony isn’t it?

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Pictured showing the accommodation brokers how National’s “in-tent-sification” policy will eradicate homelessness!
Auckland Business owners worry about homeless people affecting their businesses and profits?
Aw didums!
Wealthy people worried about more crime?
Boo hoo!
Did they think about that when they voted?
Or did they just hear TAX BREAKS! TOUGH ON CRIME!
Released on the same day the Coalition of Liars released crime figures telling us we were now living in a much reduced crime environment lol.
Shock, Horror, Probe. These idiots who rule over us have not the slightest clue how an economy works or what motivates people. People who are unwell mentally dont make well decisions. If you withdraw support from them they dont snap out of it and buck up. Most likely they will simply become less able to function. Likewise removing job seeker from young people in families that are barely coping is less likely to have a successful outcome. Maybe the real problem is that we have spent forty years building an economy which does not serve the best interests of the majority of New Zealanders. How come we could do all this stuff back then but cant now? Find out the answer to that and lets make a plan to get back to where we are making the place better rather than putting it back on track.
Potaka the potato (brown on the outside white on the inside ) has done a great job of moving the previous homeless from the motels back to living on the streets .
Potaka, another horrid right wing leech. Another embarrassment.
