Oh sweet Zombie Jesus, what new madness is this?

Media Insider: Journalist ejected from Human Rights Review Tribunal hearing under ‘contempt of court’ claim

An experienced journalist is barred from a tribunal hearing into a long-running dispute involving Wellington’s Pride festival organisers and a lesbian group. Other media have been allowed to cover the case. What’s going on?

Yay, another delightfully radioactive and hateful Trans fight.

Charming.

The Human Rights Review Tribunal is one of the few public courts that can hold the State to account and ensure human rights are upheld, it is vital that open justice is seen to be done and that means allowing journalists to cover trials.

I went to the Human Rights Review Tribunal in my fight against the NZ Police for breaching my civil rights, it is the last guardrail of accountability.

Jenny Ruth isn’t some ‘blogger’, she is a bonafide journalist and while she don’t like the trans, that is no reason to ban her from reporting on what is happening.

Doing so only injects more petty hate into a debate that is already toxic as fuck.

Two things about this case:

  1. Wellington Pride get to decide who does and doesn’t appear at their festival, they didn’t like an anti-Trans group being there, so be it.
  2. It is juvenile and appalling that the Human Rights Review Tribunal has banned a an anti-Trans journalist from covering the story.

Allow Jenny Ruth to continue to report on this pointless and waste of time case.

By banning her, you simply feed the flames of this radioactive Trans debate.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. If the HRRT get to pick& choose who can cover & report on them, it’s the start of a steepening, sjippery slope. Who’ll be next to try it on?
