Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa has joined the condemnation of the attack on Winston Peters’ home.
Co-chair John Minto says it has not yet been clearly established that the attack was motivated as a response to Peters’ refusal to recognise Palestinian rights and sanction Israel for war crimes and genocide.
“If it was, then we can understand the frustration of someone who was outraged by Peters’ indifference to genocide.”
“At the same time a broken window cannot be compared with hundreds of thousands of Palestinians killed by Israel over the past two years and the 75 years of occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing which preceded it”
“But a physical attack on a home is wrong and does nothing to help achieve any change for the better in government attitudes.”
“Instead, it will be used by the friends of the Israeli Embassy who want to close down all protests in support of Palestine.”
“That’s what’s happening in the UK, and it’s part of the Netanyahu world playbook to divert attention from Israeli war crimes.”
“Peters regularly meets with Israeli supporters in this country and with the Israeli ambassador, who has praised Peters’ UN speech – the same speech which brought a deep sense of shame and betrayal to most of the country”
“Meanwhile Peters has refused to meet with Palestinian New Zealanders or their supporters.”
Minto says Peters’ attempts to blame protest organisers for inflaming tensions are hypocritical.
“Peters has built a political career out of dog whistle personal attacks on minority, vulnerable groups such as migrants. More than any other politician in recent years he thrives on exploiting community divisions for political gain”
He was labelling anti- genocide protesters ‘bludgers’ a couple of days ago in Dunedin.”
“And he should be in no doubt we will continue to be turning up at his political events to make our views known on the complicit support and political cover he is giving to genocide.”

Yes, how dare we put any sort of pressure on our pollies. No wonder they give us all, let alone the PSNA, the two fingered salute – every friggin time – when it comes to the most horrific circumstance of our lifetime.
Just be nice and let them fcuk us over, time after time after time until there’s nothing more of us to fcuk over anymore….much like what is happening in Gaza. Gaza is the practice ground, for what awaits us all. Will we actually resist or will we continue to tread nicely, on our way to oblivion. Lets not forget folks, there’s way too many of us on this Earth – guess what that means!
“Peters regularly meets with Israeli supporters in this country and with the Israeli ambassador, who has praised Peters’ UN speech – the same speech which brought a deep sense of shame and betrayal to most of the country”
Moi mai ra Winston you zionazi need to be dismantled and politically severed from our country’s democracy making a joke of our soft power globally as a small nation has tremendous leverage you silly Oldman
I don’t have any time for Winston – he is well past his use-by-date, but it’s nagging away at me so I have to voice my misgivings. Winston is a wily old scoundrel and he knows the political ropes really, really well. So I wouldn’t put it past him to have orchestrated the breaking of his window? Chloe has categorically stated this person was not part of their peaceful protest and I believe her. It’s too easy to blame Greens which is Winston’s forte. It could simply have been a ‘lone wolf’. However, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. This distraction has got him back on side with his disgruntled followers, and he has received lots of sympathy! As far as I am concerned, he deserves everything that is thrown at him. He has sold his soul and our country to the devil. He is reprehensible and since all the CoC MPs, especially the PM, consistently lie through their teeth, he knows he can too! Just a provocative thought but worth considering?!?
It doesn’t really matter what the motives of the window breaker were, and we shall all know soon enough. The fact is that after two years of genocide, and many years of planning and preparation for genocide, the time has come to break stuff. It is just a question of what should be broken, when, how and by whom. Breaking stuff is the only way to stop the rulers of the West from killing by the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions.
Winston thinks he is the brave one, standing up for god knows what, in rejecting Palestinian statehood.
(Those surviving in Gaza, and those protesting outside Winstons house, are brave)
Protesters shouted slogans at Winston.
(IDF fired missiles at Gazans)
Protesters broke Winstons window.
(Brave IDF soldiers shoot Gazans in the head)
Winstons dog covered with glass.
(Gazan children crushed by collapsing buildings)
Protest at Winstons house reported on by free media.
(Foreign journalists not allowed into Gaza)
Winston in his jimjams curled up in bed.
(Gazans sleep in tents on top of rubble)
Winstons home in swanky suburb.
(Gazans ordered to move, so Gaza city can be demolished.
Winston chowing down at Bellamys.
(Gaza in famine)
Winston sipping perrier spring water.
(Gazans with no running water)
Winston chauffeured around in his govt limo.
(Gazans on horse drawn carts, with all their possesions)
Winstons frail constitution would be unable to endure the horrors of Gaza
(Gazans enduring horror for 2 years)
Winston and Vodafone on the side of atrocities and genocide.
(Gazan children too young to take sides, must be Hamas according to IDF)
Evil florishes when good men do nothing.
(Winston is not good, and mother Theresa is more of a man)
Indeed. We mustn’t let the (whatever you think about the justification) actions of greyhound racing supporters mad at Winston for banning the dogs obscure the reality, which is that he is continuing to cheerlead for genocide against the human population of Palestine, and that our peaceful political protest against this must continue until he sorts himself out.
PSNA and the Green Party and others all feel constrained to condemn the person who broke a window in Winston Peters house. I understand that. They are fearful of bringing down the feigned fury of the right and simultaneously alienating the general public.
But perhaps they should take a leaf out of Winston’s book. He refuses to condemn genocide until “an international court” has confirmed that genocide did in fact occur. He refuses to condemn the Israeli abduction and false imprisonment of New Zealand citizens and the violation of the right to freedom of navigation and innocent passage on the high seas until “a court” has confirmed that these outrages did in fact take place.
We have much better reason to defer judgement on this apparent case of wilful damage until all the facts are known.
Even then I might not condemn the action, because like the October 7 attack it may be a response to the criminal indifference of world governments to the plight of the Palestinian people. Those leading PSNA and the Green Party need to acknowledge that the time has come, indeed is long past, when more than words are needed in the face of genocide. At the least, civil disobedience is required. So rather than condemning, front up and lead.
‘The PSNA are fearful of alienating the public’ Seriously? Surely that’s their mission statement?
Yes. There is no condemnation for those who lead until they grow either weary-conked-out or old.
Please, weary Peters over&over. He’s not ageing quickly enough.
It’s my way using the Bible against his way of using the Bible. I don’t want to conk out.
I love the thought of Hamas getting crushed, they’re a designated terrorist organisation FFS! And Palestine voted them into power. You reap what you sow
You have a typo in your pseudonym
The last election in Gaza was circa 2006 .The children of Gaza and thier mothers did not vote for Mamma’s So why should they suffer so cruelly .My wifes grandfather was Jewish and was betrayed to the gestopo who deported him to Auschwitz dealth camp .And my late mother n law had to do forced child slave labour because she was half Jewish. The Nazis were German but not Palestinians Netanjahu Israeli government are acting like Nazis in thier Genocidal behaviour
According to reports in the NZ Herald, RNZ and Stuff.co.nz, turns out the man who broke Winston Peters window with a crowbar is being charged with burglarly..
Makes sense, I have been to many protests and I have never seen a protester carrying a crowbar.
An anti-genocide protest I attended in Aotea square a man walking around openly carrying a shovel who used it to strike a little Palestinian boy in the head putting him in hospital with a cracked skull. PSNA didn’t accuse the pro-Israel NZ First and ACT parties for inciting this apalling act of violence.

Winston Peters political career has been defined by political opportunism, his campaign to turn a broken window into the Reichstag fire, to target his political rivals, is as vile and dangerous as his campaign against immigrants which led to rise in racist attacks on refugees. Winston Peters tried to conflate the broken window, vandalism, with violence. Then threatened violence himself, saying that if had been home with something in his hand….
One thing that doesn’t fit with the burglar angle though, is the note. Which allegedly read, “Welcome to the real world”, not a usual thing a burglar would leave.
Did Winston Peters make this up?
“Welcome to the real world, sunshine” or versions of this, are an often repeated phrase by Winston Peters.
Will the note be presented as evidence at the hearing?
Will Winston Peters, or whoever found the note, be called as a witness and made to account for it?
Will the man charged with burglarly admit to writing the note and leaving it at Winston Peters’ house?
Why has the alleged burgler who turned himself into the police now plead ‘not guilty’?
I guess we will all find out in February when the alleged burglar, who has name suppression, is due in court.
Meanwhile some questions;
Will Winston Peters put the record straight and be making a fulsom apology for the reputational harm he has done to the Green Party Members of Parliament he has maligned?
Will the actor who was sacked on the basis of Peters allegations be given her job back?
Will the proposed legislation to make it illegal to protest outside someone’s house, make it past its first reading?
And what about the genocide in Gaza, which led to the protest outside Winston Peters house?
Unlike our closest friends Australia, Canada and Britain Winston Peters would not recognise the state of Palestine, claiming that it was a matter of when, not if.
Now that peace is on the table between Palestine and Israel, is it when now?

Man accused of burglary at Winston Peters’ house appears in court

….Peters previously told RNZ, the alleged offender had allegedly climbed a balustrade, put a notice on his front door and smashed a window.
Earlier on Friday, Peters told Herald Now that his partner, Jan Trotman, was injured by some glass that had been left over from the incident.
Last Thursday, dozens of pro-Palestine protesters arrived outside Peters’ Auckland home.
The demonstration, which Peters called “disgraceful and blatant harassment”, followed Peters’ announcement at the United Nations that New Zealand would not recognise Palestine, and Israel’s interception of vessels that formed the Global Sumud Flotilla, of which some Kiwis were part of.

Will Winston Peters’ version of events stand up in court?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/301007357/young-boy-hit-over-the-head-with-a-shovel-during-auckland-protest
….A young boy has been left in a serious condition after being hit over the head with a shovel during a peaceful march in central Auckland on Sunday afternoon…..
…..Hazou said the attack on the young boy had left onlookers “distraught and in tears”, while the boy’s family administered first aid and took him to an ambulance already on site.
“We have said again and again that we are peaceful protestors, but there were people who wanted to provoke the crowd with violence so that they could delegitimise our purpose….
…..The protest was meant to take place last weekend, Hazou said, but after reports that Brian Tamaki and other Destiny Church members were planning to march at the same time, the PSNA made the decision to postpone the event.
