What is NZ’s role in Trump’s Golden Dome missile defence system?
A blueprint for US President’s Donald Trump’s Golden Dome missile defence system has been created – but remains under wraps.
Trump’s orders to build the system – a huge network of satellites, sensors and shooters – comes with a NZ$300 billion budget, with plans to have America’s allies and partners cooperate with its construction, and benefit from its operation.
While New Zealand has a burgeoning space industry, the government is showing no interest so far, despite telling the US in April it is open for business for “all things space”.
But the US-NZ company Rocket Lab is already building satellites linked to the Golden Dome, and is keen to do more.
The company declined RNZ’s request for an interview.
But founder and chief executive Sir Peter Beck told investors on an earnings call last month: “Our pursuit of the Golden Dome extends just beyond payloads. Across its entire ecosystem, we have the technology and capability ready to serve.”
The company had “exactly what the US administration is seeking with Golden Dome”, with its agility, innovation and integration getting things done on time, he told the earnings call.
There was “pent-up demand” for its new larger Neutron rocket to come to market, from programmes like the dome.
“The $[US]175,000,000,000 Golden Dome programme could prove to be one of DOD’s [Defence Department’s] largest procurements to date, and we’re in a great position to capitalise on opportunities here.”
As The Daily Blog has been pointing out for like half a decade now, Rocket Labs is not this Number 8 Wire go getter, it’s a franchisee holder for the American Military Industrial Complex, their launch sites in NZ are a secondary launch site for the CIA and the American Military.
Let me spell it out to you, Rocket Labs has made us a legitimate military target in the eyes of the Russians and Chinese.
Why do you think we bought Sub Hunting Helicopters?
Because in the event of open conflict, Chinese and Russian Subs would legitimately see sitting off the East Coast of NZ to strike our Launch Sites as a legitimate military target.
Rocket Labs made us a legitimate military target and NO ONE in the mainstream media will ever point this out!
Why not make Rocket Labs pay for the $2.7b Helicopters, we are buying them to defend Rocket Labs interests, not NZs!
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
It’s particularly disgusting that Rocket Lab have made the lovely people of Mahia a military target.
It also brings a large number of well paid workers to the area.
Lol imagine pretending that some pricks from Auckland showing up every few months are somehow helping Mahia. Definitely outweighs your hometown becoming a legitimate target for a nuclear strike!
Warning planet full of brainwashed slaves
China has better tech than the US we are playing second fiddle to US junk why aren’t we buying Chinese tech? It’s cheaper better
Exactly.
