Since dawn, Israeli air strikes, missile-launches and gunfire on homes, as well as medical and other facilities, have resulted in 38 dead and 190 wounded. The total number now killed in Gaza, since 7 October 2023, has risen to at least 65,382 and the total wounded is at least 166,985. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 91 and, that of those injured, is more than 233. A UN report states that, as of 14 January 2025, around 70% of those killed in Gaza were women and children.

Israel threatened military action against the Global Sumud Flotilla, falsely claiming that it is “organised by Hamas” and “intended to serve Hamas,” and vowing to prevent it from reaching Gaza. Activists were instructed to dock in Ashkelon and hand over aid for Israeli-controlled delivery, as Israel maintains a naval blockade of Gaza that has been in place since 2007. Past flotillas, including the 2010 Mavi Marmara mission, were intercepted by force, resulting in ten deaths. Since 24:00 on 7 October 2023, Israeli Occupation forces have been imposing a complete closure of the West Bank, preventing residents and other permit-holders from entering or leaving. The Israeli military also imposes severe and highly variable travel restrictions on all residents.
