This Government are actively lying to your face over Health…

Government health spending claims ‘inflated’ and ‘misleading’ – study

A new report says New Zealand’s health spend fell behind that of 16 comparable countries from 2013

  • Government used 2018 data and included GST in “misleading” health spending claims – report
  • New Zealand’s health spend fell behind that of 16 comparable countries from 2013
  • Senior doctors’ union says underfunding explains staffing shortages and ballooning wait times for patients
  • Health Ministry says it’s working on improving data reporting
  • Health Minister Simeon Brown says “record investment” is delivering better health outcomes for patients.

Government claims that New Zealand’s health spending outstripped the OECD average were “misleading” because they were based on old data and included GST, Auckland University research has found.

The health financing and expenditure report – commissioned by the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists – reveals the Health Ministry stopped reporting health spending to the OECD seven years ago.

“Data on New Zealand health expenditure has become increasingly unreliable for comparisons with other countries, as the Ministry of Health has not made submissions to the OECD since 2018 and made provisional returns from 2011 to 2018.”

…We told you National were privatising health!

Here was Luxon defended using Private Health…

Luxon defends health reforms amid Kiwis seeking surgery overseas

Asked whether the health system is failing as Kiwis go abroad for surgery, PM Christopher Luxon defends outsourcing to private hospitals, saying “outcomes matter” and investment is ramping up.

…and this is the game right?

Shrug and say ‘I’m focused on outcomes’, by pushing more contracts towards the private sector, rather than building the public sector, Luxon can pretend this is a simple choice when really it’s privatisation by stealth.

Most rich right wingers have private health insurance and so don’t give a fuck about the public service, however the vast majority of you aren’t wealthy and don’t have private heath insurance, and for you, you are being fucked.

The only game this Government have left as Nurses and Drs strike while hospitals are overloaded is lying straight to your faces so you won’t notice.

  1. Health spending should be slashed to 1980-1990’s levels (inflation adjusted of course), since the health outcomes were far better then than they are today. Indeed, I would just grab the 1980-2000 Health Budgets and just copy and paste them into 2025. Further all of the Patented drugs used in those times will be Generic now, so we can also save a fortune on drug purchases too by not buying the latest (but far from greatest) drugs from Big Pharma (who’s entire business model relies on treatments rather than cures).

    • a.) By how much as the population grown since the 1990’s?
b.) How has the demographic balance of the population shifted since the 1990’s, and what has been the cost impact on health provision? (Clue 1: if baby boomers were born between 1945 and 1965, in 1995, the oldest boomers were 50, in 2025 the oldest boomers are 80. Clue 2: baby boomers are the biggest population cohort. Clue 3: people need more health care as they get older)
c.) Have the new drugs, medical procedures and medical devices that have become available this century reduced the cost burden of disease in the community more than the cost of purchasing them?

    • Idiot, slash health budget to the 80s when the population has increased by 2 million. Why did you even comment?
Perhaps because National love to take us back to the 80s.

  2. Don’t worry, Bob will be here soon to tell us Simian Brow is the best Health Minister we’ve ever had and everything is fine.

  3. Labour, unless they have a wealth tax will be unable to provide the funding to fix the problem as health, education, housing all need major investment.

  4. I never voted for these assholes, I am not allowing them.If I could wave a light sabre or a wand, but not a gun, I would wish this whole government never happened snd that Labour had had enough gumption to spend their political capital given to them in such a landslide in MMP to enact real change that would be hard to undo. That did not happen. Now we have Chris Hopkins forever it seems. FUCK
