Waatea have been focused on an expose on poverty in Auckland, one story managed to sum up the true horror of it in our largest city.
A mother Waatea met put rocks in her cereal boxes so that when MSD visited to inspect her home, they would think there was food in the pantry.
Just consider the madness of that.
Pretending to fill your cereal boxes with rocks to ensure the MSD thugs don’t take your kids because of the intense poverty you are living with.
Having to fool and trick the very people who are supposed to be helping you with rocks in cereal boxes manages to sum up the enormity of poverty in Auckland in a way that defies belief.
That Mother should be able to turn to MSD for support, not fear retribution.
This is what we is now, this is who we have become.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Now there’s something “Dame” Jooly Krusty could do a reality “show” about
Lol. Indeed.
This level of poverty and fear is desperate and tragic. But since when do MSD visit people in their homes to inspect them?
Family Start is a Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children) initiative, with support and oversight from MSD
Instead of increasing benefits so people can afford to buy food, we spend money on funding agencies to crackdown on them for not having enough food
What or who js MSD?
