Why are we allowing big tech to pay so little tax?

Politics is so sectarian now, Right Wing voters will scream 'jealousy' at any Left wing critique of the tax avoidance  of these Tech giants because all they have in their hearts are anger and hurt and even if the Left are right about something they can't allow themselves to agree.

Why oh why are we allowing the Tech Giants off the hook when it comes to tax?

Bernard Hickey is scathing

  • Tax Justice Aotearoa & Better Taxes for a Better Future published a new reportthis morning titled: Big Tech, Little Tax, which estimated Facebook, Google and Amazon earned $1.6981 billion in revenue in Aotearoa last year, but reported taxable income here of just $27 million because of the use of ‘service fees’ charged to the local subsidiary by their parents in the United States.

…so these Tech giants who have caused mass social polarisation, destroyed fourth estate journalism and profited from doing both pay a measly nothing here for all that social destruction?

We can’t keep allowing these Tech giants to cause this level of damage and not pay into the economy for that greed!

There are ways we can target these Tech Giants…

…but this Government doesn’t have the spine to do it.

Politics is so sectarian now, Right Wing voters will scream ‘jealousy’ at any Left wing critique of the tax avoidance  of these Tech giants because all they have in their hearts are anger and hurt and even if the Left are right about something they can’t allow themselves to agree.

Our Social Media Overlords are laughing all the way to the bank!

  1. Gee big tech only has a 1.6% profit rate in NZ. You wonder why they even bother to operate here? Of course if they were taxed more they would take capital flight, pack up their data centres and leave!

  3. Absolutely disgusting. Fun fact, Google founder Larry Page is supposedly a New Zealand citizen. The Ardern regime disgustingly sold him citizenship, even worse, it was during COVID- he got a special exemption to come here and pollute our country.

Page pays less tax IN TOTAL than the checkout chicks at your local supermarket.

    • Kiwis add data, add customers, add network effect and we add profit to the bottom line calculated in their tax haven. If their was no value in all that they wouldn’t operate here.
