Are gang patch bans and gold visa schemes a real plan — or political theatre? In this 1-on-1 in 10, Labour Leader Chris Hipkins joins Martyn Bradbury to unpack the government’s slash-and-burn economic agenda, the politics of punishment, and why New Zealand deserves better than slogans over solutions. Hipkins pushes back on the Right’s “tough on crime” rhetoric, calls out tax breaks for banks and Big Tech, defends social investment in vulnerable communities, and outlines what Labour must do to win back the country in 2026 — including whether tactical voting could be on the table. A direct and unapologetic conversation about justice, inequality, economic mismanagement, and hope for a better Aotearoa.

Surely there can’t be more than a handful out there who ‘seriously’ can’t see that this CoC has ‘totally crashed’ our economy and destroyed the lives of many? Intelligent New Zealanders have had more than enough! So Labour/Left it shouldn’t be difficult to do much better. You will need to be focused, disciplined, courageous and through compromise and common sense have ALL your main policies agreed between you and any potential coalition partners. Mostly, you will need funds from a fair taxation system to clean up the horrible mess this CoC has made and provide a better life for all of us in which everyone shares the load. We all need to move forward to a brighter, more promising future that is not dominated/controlled by egotists, the insidious Atlas, the bullying USA, or any other outside moronic influence! So please get on with it and do it properly!
The only thing I agree with this COC is the gang patch ban and I’ve more than once given my personal experience and reasons why I support this initiative
