The ‘gentle whispers’ in London that Nicola Willis would be NZ’s next PM follow her home

“As the room buzzed with excitement on the minister’s visit, gentle whispers could be heard emanating from certain expat corners that perhaps we were mingling with New Zealand’s next prime minister,” the post says.

The society’s role is to advocate and celebrate New Zealand products and businesses, and support the community of expats there. Its patron is King Charles, while its vice patron is New Zealand’s High Commissioner to the UK. Its president is Rachel Glucina, a notorious former gossip columnist.

She was the fake journalist sent to interview the young woman behind the infamous John Kery pony tail pulling story that The Daily Blog broke in 2015.

Rachel told the young woman she was a media adviser for the Cafe Owners where Key had been pulling her pigtails.

She wasn’t, she was a journalist for NZ Herald pretending to be a media adviser so she could interview the young woman for the Herald.

I personally rang the editor Shane Currie and told him that Glucina had falsely represented herself to get the interview, he refused to accept this and printed the article anyway.

Press council rules against Herald on ‘Ponygate’ interview

On April 23, the New Zealand Herald published, front-page and online, an article about Amanda Bailey and the controversy over her reaction to the Prime Minister, John Key, when he persistently pulled her ponytail at the cafe where she worked as a waitress.

The Press Council has upheld the substance of the complaints. This is a brief outline; for the full Press Council decision, in two parts, please see www.presscouncil.org.nz.

Key concerns were:

• The Herald columnist, Rachel Glucina, had misrepresented as PR rather than newsgathering the basis on which she was conducting the interview that led to the article (subterfuge).

• The columnist’s and her brother’s connections with the cafe owners and the columnist’s connection with John Key were not disclosed (conflict of interest).

• There was no clear consent from Ms Bailey concerning publication in the Herald.

• The Herald failed to contact Ms Bailey after it became apparent there were concerns about the article prior to publication, dealing only with the cafe owners.

In short, the complaints stated the Herald had failed to act transparently and in good faith with Ms Bailey and had breached professional standards.

  5. Frankly amazing that the NZ media would believe a thing she says, let alone publish it.

    And how did she refer to Nepo Nicky No-clues “voice”?

    Hhahahahahahahahahahahaha.

    The whole article reads like poorly researched fan fiction.

    It’s so bad and clumsy it made me wonder if Judith wasn’t behind it, thinking she deserves another turn as leader of the Nats

    • I’ve been telling someone half the day to read TDB today. Every single item is worth a look.
      I wonder if they will still be my friend tomorrow.
      Get the impression they might be suffering from disillusionment.

      Also notice none of these items have been properly explored in MSN. We are lucky we get the good stuff.
