WHAT?

Free Speech Champion David Seymour attacks Churches for using their free Speech???

From the Pulpit: 100 churches unite to support Māori Wards – Seymour says religion and politics don’t mix

Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour has slammed churches and clergy for preaching to their congregations about the upcoming referendum on the Māori Wards.

He said churches need to stay in their lane and not mix religion with politics.

“Get back to God,” Seymour told the Herald.

Next week more than 100 churches will host two-hour workshops to educate their members on the referendums, which will be held alongside local council elections from 9 September to 9 October this year.

The referendums came out of the coalition agreements with both ACT and NZ First: councils that established Māori wards without referendums have to hold a binding poll alongside their local body elections.

Time and time and time again we see the Free Speech Cheerleaders of the NZ Right who parade their Free speech pretensions, right up until you say something they don’t like and then suddenly the very same who preach Free Speech suddenly demand silence.

The hypocrisy of it robs the Right of any claim to being defenders of Free Speech, they have weaponised Free Speech and use it to control the nature of the debate, not protect it!

    Dance harder, everybody!
Does the likes of peecanzycrazies have no more hoops at the moment?
    Incandescent, let’s have it
Be little though, a bigger prance

      • Which Pope?

Ghost says, “Forgiveness is the best path forward, otherwise it eats you up.”

Forgiveness only helps if the offending party want it. That sort complain that their victim is unforgiving. Often, this is the only admission the victim receives that the bullies know they are guilty. I’d bet you that Ardern is of the attitude that people need to be forgiving.

Acceptance is often the better route.
        and Accountability.
I had to accept that the FSU (for example) is pathetic.

  2. Does the little jerkoff seemore have a problem with the churches feeding poor New Zealanders, housing them or providing social services I don’t think so the little nasty prick

  3. It’s ok for Seymour to ‘play politics’ because that’s all it is to him, a game. He’s on the side that wants to corner all the world’s resources for the enrichment of the few.
But not ok if others give him some of his own medicine. It has always been the roll of churches to keep people apprised of the wider meanings of what’s going on in the country. Media isn’t doing a terrific job so more falls onto churches. That’s not straying from their lane at all. Their duty is to their congregations and when they see something that their people need to know about, they should tell them.
Churches are also more about fairness and as our present govt. has abandoned this idea, someone else has taken up the slack. Good on them.
Seymour should stay in his lane instead of interfering everywhere when not required.
He’s just a busy-body trying to make himself look important.
He knows he’s on the wrong side of history and is therefore willing to attack anyone.

  4. Wasn’t it David Lange in “My Life’ who said The Rog’s ideology (like that of EeeOre Seymour) was in the nature of a religion?
You couldn’t make most of this shit up – even if AI assisted (in this space, going forward)
BTW Davey, Brookie still wants to have your baby – even if by way of a turkey baster

  5. Why was anybody ever fooled by these authoritarians pretending to believe in free speech?

They’re right-wingers, so they believe that hierarchies of wealth, power and control are natural, inevitable and beneficial. They also believe that they are naturally, deservedly and inevitably at the top of those hierarchies. They’re authoritarian to the bone – and the more they claim to be ‘libertarian’ the more authoritarian they are. They want to control and eliminate your speech unless it aligns with theirs, they want to use the wealth of their backers to buy and control media outlets, and to donate unlimited amounts to their favourite political parties to undermine democratic processes. If you challenge this attempt to monopolise and dominate public discourse, they invoke their ‘freedom of speech’.

It’s the left that needs free and especially equal speech and we should be the champions for it. Speech is not free unless it is reasonably equally distributed. The left should not surrender this ground to the authoritarians who are the bogus defenders of free speech.

  6. If churches should stick to God Seemore should stick to politics why is he on dancing with the stars particularly when he can’t dance for shit

  7. As well as the bike helmet, Seymour should campaign to lower the age for superannuation for Maori to 57 years, because Maori have a life expectancy 8 years less than non Maori. It would be the fair and just thing to do for his people and he would get kuia vote

    • David would think that an evil race based idea. He is probably in favour of increasing the age, 67 then 70, as super becomes more expensive. In reality it should not be universal but should be abated depending on your income.

    • This is a great idea and should be implemented immediately. A similar precedent was set when Tim Fairhall was given access to his Kiwisaver before 65 because his life expectancy was lower than the population, so really it is just a matter of getting the paperwork through.

  8. The more the nation sees Seymours policy the more it wants to see less of it implemented. Pink shorts under 5% next election?

  9. Oh dear – now Seymour is attacking our churches and freedom of speech! BUT again it’s about DISTRACTION, the CoC’s lack of COMPASSION, and never ending CORRUPTION. Isn’t his horrid little Regulatory Standards Bill about to be introduced? The members of this CoC are riding dangerously high. It all has to blow up in their faces very soon!

  10. Careful what you wish for.
Because religion getting traction in politics always ends so bloody well, doesn’t it?

  11. Seymour just hates all morality, unless it’s the libertarian kind of ‘morality’ like that detailed in Walter Block’s ‘Defending the Indefensible’ where it’s all about arguing how child prostitution is good for the child.
