Israel deliberately obstructing aid, Former PM Helen Clark says
Former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark says she’s witnessed Israel deliberately obstructing life-saving humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Together with former Irish President Mary Robinson, Clark visited the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Palestinian territory this week.
The two former world leaders were part of The Elders, an independent, non-government organisation of global leaders working together for peace, justice, human rights and sustainability.
The group had regularly spoken out about the situation in Gaza since Israel announced war on Hamas in October 2023.
Helen Clark is without a doubt one of the great New Zealander’s and her leadership on the global stage is needed now more than ever before.
Her courage to go right to the very coal face of the horror and to call it like she saw it, an “unfolding genocide”, you have to respect her mana.
I am so past wanting justice or accountability or blaming Israel’s monstrous IDF and their bewildering barbarity and cruelty – I, like so many billions around the world want this abomination to end immediately and Gaza and the West Bank flooded with aid, medical help, immediate cessation of all violence and a UN force prepared to protect the Palestinian population.
This dreadful scar upon humanity that Israel has mutilated our collective civilisation with must cease.

What is notable is that Helen Clark doesn’t call it a genocide herself, saying a group that she belongs to is now calling it a genocide.
Clark’s hesitancy to call it a genocide herself may be due to her not wanting to come into conflict with her party.
The New Zealand Labour Party ‘position’ is that it is up to the International courts to make that determination.

The Irish opposition parties and government have not waited for the ICJ to make that determination. And have invoked the genocide convention, which obligates all states to act to prevent and punish the crime of genocide

Martin Niemöller’s poem is a bitter recrimination of how liberal silence enabled the genocide of the Jews of Europe.
Without Left and liberal genocide denial the genocide in Gaza would not be possible.
We need to start remembering the faces and the names of those who have a platform in parliament and the media and choose to keep their silence, the deadly silence the Martin Niemöller warned against.
I have said this elsewhere but horrifically enough the amount of deaths due to starvation and being deliberately shot in Gaza has resulted in the victims going from being viewed as Human Being to being Viewed as Numbers.
And across the world politicians show how complicit they are in allowing this Active Genocide and War Crime to Continue.
Here in NZ we have a Weakling/Coward/Spineless Gutless Wonder of a so-called prime minister(yes deliberate use of lower case here)who probably Will Not Sanction Israel because he doesn’t want to upset the Convicted Felon, Twice Impeached Donald Trump.
I will be honest but this government LACKS HUMANITY. Their leader is a Plastic Christian who is More Obsessed with EGO, Photo Opportunities, the Pay Packet and Perks of the job and the wannabe of being as a “Sir”.
And so in order for Weakling Luxon to look like ‘he is thinking about others when in reality he Friggin’ doesn’t care’ shows how poorly he is as a representative of NZ and NZers either here in NZ or across the globe. For Luxon his performance as a prime minister is All an ACT. He deems himself entitled to take whatever money he can from the NZ taxpayers whilst he has his “Pavlova Junkets” where-ever and whenever at NZ taxpayers expense.
