You have to hand it to the Right.
They have used astroturf organisations to manipulate the debate so that their interests strangle the common good by using culture war distractions to ensure you don’t recognise what they’re doing.
Look at how they combine to create an eco system designed at tricking you into believing the interests of the mega wealthy are your interests.

Comrades.
I appreciate Covid was difficult for many of us.
Jacinda won the Covid War and lost the Covid Peace.
By refusing to rebuild a new paradigm, Labour merely built back to the old inequality.
That was frustrating.
That was angering.
Labour broke our hearts, yet saved our lives.
That frustration however has been manipulated by a hard right anti-Treaty, anti-Māori, anti-Renter, anti-worker, anti-environment, anti-beneficiary Government who have strangled the common good for their donors interests.
Your unblinkered hatred of Jacinda, Trans and Māori is enabling corporations and the mega wealthy to screw us all collectively.
I appreciate your sweaty angry ‘truths’ enabled by social media hate algorithms keep you locked in an echo chamber of perpetual malice and spite, but you are being manipulated by the Right into acquiescing to Banks, Corporations and the mega wealthy.
Comrades, your enemy isn’t some kid transitioning, it’s not a Māori woman in politics, Māori women in media, or Māori women outside walking!
Your enemy isn’t drag queen story time, it’s not environmentalists, it’s not beneficiaries, it’s not state tenants, it’s not renters, it’s not the Treaty.
Your enemy is who it’s always been, the banks, the billionaires, the corporations, the powerful who use social media hate algorithms to warp you into believing their interests are your interests when nothing can be further from the truth!
We face an existential crisis in the form of the climate and the demand to radically morph into adaptation mode is far greater than any political party is currently envisaging.
Your anger, cynicism and fury at the political failures is legitimate but let’s be clear, a National/ACT/NZF Government is no solution to the problems we face, they are only exacerbating them!
Dear Kiwis – your debt and under regulated capitalism is what’s killing you, not co-governance, not bilingual signs, not alienating Trans activists and those fears are being used by the astroturf Right to manipulate you!

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Martyn, thank you, this chart is chilling reading. While so many suffer the indignity of living on the streets, and for those a tad luckier, in a rellie’s garage [!] this empty-headed PM runs a clown show, masquerading as a conference, so he can continue to kneejerk more banal pollution projects – cruise ships, mining and of course more cows! How much longer is NZ going to tolerate this egotistical “pretender”? A further 16 months of this and our lovely NZ will have been destroyed. As if Luxon isn’t bad enough, Seymour slithers around doing his utmost for Atlas, while Winnie just makes sure “I’m OK!” [NZF is not a political party it is a one man band]. Again and again enablers wake up, you can’t be as blind and stupid as you are making out. Or are you so sorted, or ready to pop your clogs, you simply don’t care?
Very good work Martyn. Thank-you for your persistence, understanding, patience and just general brilliance in summarising all these sources of manipulation.
I made a list about a year ago of all the organisations (I could think) of that the right wing needed, to prop itself up. Then I made a list of left wing support organisations. WOW!
It left me saddened and overwhelmed at how stupid NZ’ders must be to accept such incredible nonsense from such dodgy people. If they are older than 60 they surely remember some of these zealots who have been popping up for years and remember the B/S they have always spouted. Why would they suddenly give them any credence now? They surely KNOW what they are like without needing it explained every other day. Winnie for example, has been changing horses mid-stream ever since he first learned to ride. Why would they think he has loyalty to anyone but himself. Winnie is after a knighthood and it’s getting late. He will go wherever that takes him.
Anyone ever involved with Act has a slimy reputation and that hasn’t changed.
How can people who grew up in the 60s and 70s, the era of renewed feminism, protesting wars and nuclear weapons, burgeoning awareness of the environment, recognition of Māori grievances (Dame Whina Cooper’s hikoi) and the first efforts to help replace their lost resources, etc. and be lulled into thinking they belong on the other side now with the people who espoused those wars and weapons, didn’t want to see women or Māori making any progress in the workplace and towards prosperity, environmental protection, the list is long.
What were they doing in the 60s and 70s that they weren’t aware of what was happening and have now become their parents?
Did they not listen to the words of all the great protest songs of the era? Rachael’s coming Home, Russell Morris version so well-known. They couldn’t have escaped hearing it on the tranny, reached No1. in NZ in 1970. Did none of that make any dent in their provincial self-centred attitudes?
My parents were debating the raising of Lake Manapouri, even though we were 1000 km. away. Didn’t know much about Vietnam but weren’t very impressed with the Americans constantly making other peoples’ business their own, then the humiliating back down. Mum read ‘Future Shock’. Dad worked designing and supplying equipment to dairy farms and was utterly disgusted with some of the filthy farms he encountered.
How have older people escaped knowing about any of these debates or changes for the better, that began around that time, and who was for and who was against. How could they ignore so much of our history?
Why have the opinions of some of these late boomers become so snobbish, old fashioned and lazy? They have everything they need yet they begrudge others wanting those things too.
The Great ‘Pretender’ by the Platters
Oh-oh, yes, I’m the great pretender
Pretending that I’m doing well
My need is such, I pretend too much
I’m lonely, but no one can tell
Oh-oh, yes, I’m the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I played the game but to my real shame
You’ve left me to grieve all alone
Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Yes, I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around
Stuart Nash has just been appointed to the Taxpayers’ Union board. How does that fit into the conspiracy flowchart?
Cuckoo in the nest. Might require another box called Traitors.
Further from Iain Banks RIP:
It’s the utter idiocy, the sheer wrong-headedness of the response that beggars belief. I mean, your society’s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? Rounds off the quote above.
Well who should we blame? I wasn’t aware of doing anything wrong, traffic tickets etc! What about you? I didn’t set out to make millions from buying artfully purloined government, public stuff and then show white teeth like crocodile jaws – that said I am holding onto whatever I catch, right or wrong so you had better hold your water.
Where’s the high volume usual noise posters ada trevor kraut shack im right et al
