Government’s voter suppression act demands a super majority!

The sheer scale of what the Government are proposing with their voter suppression powers, alongside the Attorney-Generals warning that the move is discriminatory to our Asian, Pacifica and Māori communities alongside our young people demands that the Government seek a super majority for these changes.

The total number of people impacted by banning special votes 12 days up until the election as well as on election day impacts as many as half a million voters!

Law changing election rules impacting this many voters demands a supermajority to justify it or else it looks like the Government are gerrymandering the next election!

National got it wrong when they banned prisoners from voting without a supermajority…

High Court declaration on prisoner voting rights upheld

At the heart of a Supreme Court case in March was a claim that voting was a protected right that required a 75 per cent “super majority” of Parliament to change it, which a 2010 prisoners’ voting ban did not have.

…they got it wrong then, I argue they have got it wring now!

You can’t pass law that disenfranchises this many voters and not seek a Supermajority to do it!

  1. Before the morons arrive…

    Voting is a RIGHT.

A RIGHT is not conditional on anything. It can be suspended in times of war, natural disasters or a once in a lifetime plague for example.

But it is NOT conditional on anything.

You are mistaking that for exercising a PRIVILEGE.

If you don’t understand the difference between a right and a privilege, you have failed civics 101 and don’t deserve the right to vote.

So when Luxon and Seymour etc… talk about attaching conditions to exercising your RIGHTS, tell them to get fucked and go back to school.

And now it looks like our clueless government of bullies have got their claws into the Electoral Commission to disenfranchise as many Maori as possible.

They know they’re fucked at the next election due to the stench and the evidence of corruption and incompetence surrounding them and, in typical private school boy fashion, need to cheat .

    • Cinder, your right to the unemployment benefit is conditional on an application and regular updates to WINZ. Rights always have a corresponding duty such as making an application.

      • There aren’t enough Winz staff to process applicants due to the governments 5.2% unemployment rate.

  2. When you enroll online it’s not instant it takes a couple of days . So please please do not wait until the last minute

    • The NSDAP succeeded in a democratic election. The foreign puppet Luxon doesn’t want to take that risk.

  3. All the wankers that thought Jacinda was authoritarian aint seen nothing yet with these CoC fascists

  4. To me what this government is proposing is a Breach of Our Human Rights and a Breach of Our Democratic Rights.
But then it is hardly surprising that a government on the Downward Track Backward Slope is demeaning themselves to such a lowly level as to Impinge Upon the Democratic and Human Rights of Registered NZ Citizens on the account that they are Either Prisoners or are of No Fixed Abode.
I have in the past expressed my concern that a government entering into a defeat will try to find a way of denying those they deem as Lesser Beings the right to vote. Those Lesser(or as Luxon would call them Bottom Feeders) Being as most likely becoming the victims of Race Based Victimisation by this White is Right government.
And I am a Pakeha by the way.
We have lived in the same house on the same street over 62 years and if by perchance I find I have been removed from voting despite not moving elsewhere because National want to Remove the Labour Party voting lot shows this government up very badly.
They are behaving in the Trump-Style of Dictatorship which could well be viewed as Deporting those who are not citizens in a Dawn Raid sort of action.
Lets face it but most likely Prisoners, the Homeless, the Unemployed are mostly Maori and Pacific Islanders. The very people who are on the lower socio economic structure here in NZ and the ones More Likely to Vote Labour. And so in attempt to manipulate or Rig an Election would be the Antics a Right Wing Party Like National would partake of.
