MEDIAWATCH: Moana vs Winston

I consider Moana Maniapoto one of the best current affairs hosts in NZ.

Te Ao with Moana on Māori TV is a weekly must watch.

Her intelligence, her grace and her authenticity gives her a unique quality as a broadcaster to illuminate the person behind the politician.

That’s why her interview this week with Winston is so important.

In it, Moana illuminated the real character of one of our oldest and most wily politicians, Winston Peters.

Winston was there for the drama and for his grievance drenched anti-vaxx, anti-Trans electorate base.

His manufactured sense of offence, his snowflake level trigger response to being asked basic questions, his wounded sulking – he represents the psychological profile of the average NZF voter – bitter traditionalists who have all gone down Facebook rabbit holes.

Winston has an enormous political legacy, but his calcified grudge culture only works with the wounded and gauche.

Moana just had to give Winston the rope and he hung himself.

He is an acerbic embittered Politician representing a resentful electorate. Moana exposed that in a very unique manner.

Winston will be happy because he gave his grudge holding supporters the disgruntled performance they wanted and Māori TV should be happy that their best current affairs hosts exposed him so openly like that.

Brilliant public broadcasting.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. In other words, there’s no middle ground to be had with Peters there.

The FIVE is (for those who don’t know) —

I could/can only go by what I know/understand within my life here, and to make my decisions accordingly from within The Silent Treatment.

Peters doesn’t. He’s a meddler of epic proportions. Evil.
    The government knows.
We must have resignations. NOW. Fair’s fair.

  2. Vampire Peters has caused untold political damage in this country since the 1970s and seems determined to go out on a very low note indeed. For every reasonable effort like PGF and Gold Card, he soon summons up a giant dump on Māori and NZ working class. Hope he retires soon.

  3. Winston in the house today called Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall a dumbo, a moron, an economic illiterate, a liar that is misleading parliament and spreader of false information. Guyon Espiner and RNZ were told to look out as he is gunning for them. All this under the privilege of parliament of course. Winston needs a big cup of tea and a very long lie down.
