You were manipulated into believing 3 Waters was an existential race war, how are those rising rates now redneck?

I don’t think Kiwis actually understood anything about 3 Waters.

Labour knew the costs were coming on our aging water infrastructure and that the Courts had ruled Māori do have an interest in water.

3 Waters was an attempt to balance that legal ruling on Māori with lowering costs.

YOU were all convinced by redneck dark Ag money via Groundswell and the Taxpayers’ Union that it was ‘Da Maaaaaaaares is stealing da water’ and so 3 Waters was destroyed and the costs immediately smashed you while Māori began legal action against the Government over water.

How are those rising rates now redneck?

  1. Labour did a poor job of selling the deal and threw their Minister under the bus when it became obvious that the public did not like the scheme.

    • The majority of “the public” are ignorant…if Labour had spent $10 million on ‘selling’ the idea to ” the public” they would have been castigated for that too… wasting taxpayer’s money..

    • No Trevor your right wing mates did a better job manipulating their media mates and giving air to Fed Farmers and Ground Swell loonies.
      Now the chicken has come home to roost and you still blame Labour.
      How about accepting responsibility for your own sides failure. I pay rates in Whanganui whose Mayor has been trumpeting the low rates increase.
      While claiming credit he is not acknowledging previous Councils foresight in biting the bullet against much opposition to ensure our Water and Sewage systems were updated and adequate for the future.
      He is also not trumpeting the increases in fees and charges that would have previously been paid for out of rates.
      Nor is he trumpeting the deferred maintenance and capital expenses which is just kicking the can down the road.
      Eg a bridge over the rail line that has been closed for a year, previously budgeted for renewal this year now deferred indefinitely.
      In two years time rates will rock up again and our council will have to address the storm water, footpaths, roading, etc that are being deferred now. Sound familiar?

      • Same deal here in Waitomo .I pay 1k a year for water and 1200 a year for sewage ,which is to cover the 10 mill the previous council borrowed to upgrade the water supply and install a new sewage system .Our increase is 2.9% this year but there is no mention of the 11 mill to install a new mains pipe inTe Kuiti next year .

  2. Why should one human who happens to be part Maori have a say over water. Whats my water on my place got to do with people who live 3 hours drive away.

  3. Water infrastructure upgrades still need to be paid -its either through local government rates or central government tax.

  4. Trevor and Im right’s posts claim that government policies depend on how they are’ sold’. Not on upon whether they benefit the nation or not.
    Is this the final stage of the consumer society? Vote for me because I run the best sales campaign?
    So am I take it that you are willing to vote for Labour, the Greens, Te Pati Maori if they can tell more lies better than ACT, national, New Zealand First? if so you definitely will get the kind of government you really deserve.
    Also Trev, you prophesied that by the middle of this year( or was it last year? I forget I have been waiting so long) that a surge of economic growth will sweep through the land bringing prosperity, low inflation, an end to unemployment, low crime, better weather, improved healthcare, cures for the common cold and all good things from the Cornucopia of Luxon and Seymour.
    No signs of it where I am.
