New poll paints grim picture for the coalition government

The results paint a grim picture for the coalition government, with 76% saying the economy was “not so good” or “poor”, while 37% expected things to worsen.

Only 23% of those polled said the economy was in “good” or “excellent” shape.

The Government’s performance was judged harshly by poll respondents, with only 38% believing they deserved a second term. On the other hand, 48% said it was time for another party to govern.

These numbers simply can not be a shock.

The Economy is so damaged from National’s 2024 construction costs that the knock on effect has been devastating.

Business investment is now so weak that banks have not lent any net new money to non-landlord businesses and farmers since May last year!

READ THAT AGAIN!

Business investment is now so weak that banks have not lent any net new money to non-landlord businesses and farmers since May last year!

Jesus wept that is destructive.

Add that alongside to the Centrix report this month that showed the cost of the Government’s shutting down of construction saw over 12 000 jobs gone in a year!

The incredibly negative impact on the economy from this Government’s ideological experiment has borne a bitter, bitter harvest and no amount of of ‘we are fixing Labour’s mistakes’ can gloss over the fact that these negative economic conditions that we are experiencing ARE THE DIRECT RESULT of National’s own policies.

The ONLY thing that National are desperately holding onto now is selling citizenships to the mega wealthy and changing the Overseas Investment rules to allow Trans-National’s to exploit the housing market!

Dita De Boni reports that The Government is trumpeting the fact that 215 applications have so far been received for the rejigged Golden visa categories, with $1 billion in new money landing this year if all those who applied are approved.

Is this what we have become?

A country selling citizenship to multi-millionaires to prop up our economy?

The changes Winston has announced is to acquiesce to these 215 multi-millionaires…

Foreign buyers ban: Winston Peters says change to be announced this year, denies NZ First ‘softening’

Winston Peters expects a change impacting the foreign buyers ban will be announced this year, but the New Zealand First leader denies his party is “softening” its approach.

Consultation is under way within NZ First and any changes will have to go in front of the party’s coalition partners for consideration before any Government policy is confirmed.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has publicly said conversations are ongoing about allowing foreigners to purchase property here.

To get the green light to buy homes here, NZ First believes foreigners would need to make a significant investment to the New Zealand economy. The party also does not want to disrupt the housing market.

The Herald understands no proposal has yet been put before associate Finance Minister David Seymour, who has responsibility for the Overseas Investment Act.

…this Government has run out of economic ideas and is now trying to sell citizenship’s to prop the economy up while changing our Overseas Investment rules and yet no one seems to be aware this is happening because we have a dumbed down Seven Sharp and a NZ media built upon properly speculation advertising.

Why aren’t any of you seeing this?

  1. These mid-term polls are by and large utterly meaningless. The facts are that single term governments are extremely rare in New Zealand. Only two in history and BOTH were Labour:
    Walter Nash, 1957-60.
Norman Kirk and Wallace (Bill) Rowling, 1972-75.
The idea that this National Government is going to be the next one is at best wishful thinking.

  2. “Why aren’t any of you seeing this?”

The real question is why isn’t Labour seizing on this to push some really bold reforms, a real brighter future for everyone? Are they just expecting to squeak in with their own three party coalition, by just being slightly less bad than National? The Left needs to wake up and demand a real choice. We deserve better than “slightly less bad”.

    • Why would Labour put a target on their back by releasing all their policies over a year out from the election? The Government are the ones who have the power to make a difference here, Labour’s job is to hold them to account and focus on getting in again next year.

  3. This poll was released yesterday and was on stuff for a couple of hours ,then taken down .No doubt the govt called and said do not continue to publish or we will screw you over .All other MSM have remained silent .We can now see why Luxon was swearing about Chippie .

  4. With the above forcing thought of potholes in their smooth road perhaps CoC [ *Note below] will go into urgency more often. After all Roger the Dodger praised that fast-moving plan as a way of oligarch wannabes getting laws to suit themselves. So on google today.

The phrase was a pejorative term used primarily by Christopher Luxon, Leader of the New Zealand National Party to describe a potential left-wing coalition that Prime Minister Chris Hipkins of the New Zealand Labour Party might have formed after the election with the major progressive third parties, Te Pāti Māori and the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand.

  5. With 6 billion of infrastructure spending starting in the next few months employment and business will have a up tick and the figures will change so the left should not get too excited.

    • Ennius, this poll is done for business groups not a political organization such as the Taxpayers Union.
I have no faith in the Taxpayers Union poll. It is done by a polling company currently under scrutiny over it’s methodology.
Also it is owned by a well known right wing blogger and member of the NZ Initiative.

      • Mmmmmm. You don’t seem to know that Talbot is Labour’s pollster and Curia (used by the Taxpayer’s Union is National’s). Talbot is usually kind to the Left. Hence if Curia had these numbers it would be interesting.

  6. Seeing our what P.M., IN THE HOOS, recent under pressure, and looking like a heart attack away, he is not doing well.
These latest debatable poll results are without doubt, having a effect on the present coalition of slash and burn, and their body language in the Hoos, shows it, them all smile laugh, and deride whenever, showing a gut knowing, how fucked they are.
As for the shovel in the ground projects, like their pot hole fix, its like, asking your neigbour have you still got a pot to piss in, no, but that pot hole outside they keep repeating fix, does the job.

  7. You know things are bad when food banks are struggling to keep up with demand and a TV station starts acting like a food bank, handing out free food parcels to needy families as entertainment, but only if they agree to front up to the cameras, hunger games style.

    Come on in Matt. Morena.

Morena Jenny May, how are you. Nice to talk to you this morning. I’ve met someone, I am going to introduce you to Shane. Shane he knew we were giving away some care packages.

My eldest daughter up in Palmerston North is going through raiation treatment, I’ve got the four grandchildren….

  8. The Left need TPM to gonwith them to actually win .If Labour win the by election coming up that coalition could be fragile.

    • TPM have nowhere else to go, I don’t see how Labour winning the byelection would affect their ability to work together?

  9. “Finance Minister Nicola Willis says there is “no getting away” from the fact that the price of butter is expensive right now, but doesn’t think consumers are getting a “raw deal”.

Speaking to the media from Parliament, Willis said she appreciates that the cost of butter affects different people in various ways, but that it was not the government’s position to change global dairy prices.

“We are realistic that is not within our power,” she said.

Willis said she appreciated that New Zealanders can see the downsides of high butter prices when they shop, but there was a positive flip-side.

“At the other side of that is that right now New Zealand is having an export-led recovery, that means that hundreds of millions of dollars are pouring into our economy, which is creating and supporting jobs.”

Hardly surprising they are getting smashed with this financially illiterate idiot is at the helm.
Of course they’re getting a raw deal and there is no flip[ side it creates jobs. You’re the one creating high inflation and record unemployment that’s not a positive you mentally retarded wench but then again not surprising when one need only look at their support base.

    • This government feels thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.

A lot of activity for some of the dimmest bulbs in creation – people that can honestly look up to Trump – they’re that stupid.

But nothing sensible. They are wasting NZ’s time, NZ’s money, & NZ’s life.

An even vaguely competent government would absolutely thrash Labour, so rooted are they by their addiction to neoliberalism. But we have shambling morons – don’t they make you feel proud?
