Sweet Jesus this gets more crazy by the week.

Not only will it cost us $20million per year to allow corporations to vet all legislation using a narrow libertarian value that places property rights over human rights, the while thing will add such an enormous layer of red tape that it will cost an extra $60million per year…

Ministry feared costs of $60m a year to review laws under Regulatory Standards Bill

Officials have warned David Seymour’s Regulatory Standards Bill could be much more expensive than previous estimates suggested, and could lead to business uncertainty, slowing economic growth.

Seymour is playing down the concerns, saying AI will solve some of those problems and the officials have not accounted for some aspects of the bill he expects will speed up government processes.

The documents released under the Official Information Act show Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) officials feared $50 million to $60m a year in costs to government departments would be on the low end of estimates.

They also believed the bill would slow the passage of legislation by two to four weeks, and make the business environment more uncertain, slowing economic growth.

Like other departments and in line with the Regulatory Impact Statement prepared by the Ministry for Regulation, MBIE also expressed “concerns about the proposals outlined and their ability to support genuine improvement in regulatory quality”, and said there were other, better options for achieving the bill’s aims.

…IT’S DOING THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT DAVID SAID IT WOULD DO!

You stupid sleepy hobbits.

How deep is your post covid bitterness towards Jacinda to think this is acceptable?

Let me get this straight, just so you can ‘own’ us the Left, you will hand Corporations massive unchecked power that will cost us $80million extra a year?

Wow.

Just. Wow.

Your spite is beneath us.

Time to take a long hard look in the mirror Kiwi.

  1. Who are these sleepy hobbits you address often in your pieces Martyn? They’re hardly likely to be reading The Daily Blog.

    • Bob the first would be one as he is neither good at math or the English language but believes everything he’s told by Willis and Standford et al because he can’t think for himself, the definition of a “sleepy hobbit”

  2. Just so I’m clear on this: when a record number of people object to this bill, they are clearly all bots. When the ministry points out this bill will cost potentially into the hundreds of millions Davids answer is no it will be cheaper because… bots?????

  3. That’s just the cost to government departments. What about the damages to bit coin ATM vendors, oil companies and mining companies or any other multinational every time a property right is interfered with. Since Seymour is allergic to tax, I expect we will be selling things to pay for it or attracting immigrants with no infrastructure or support systems. ACT are ideological slaves. But so are the fringe loops on the left. Just different madness.

  4. Growth growth growth in increased costs ,car rego insurance ,just a couple along with food and now they want to add this bull shit that we will be paying for not the greedy corporations

  5. Not that much of a surprise. Kiwi’s love getting gouged by commercial entities – we can’t get enough of it. We like it even more when we can use our tax dollars to create new sectors of the economy and then sell them cheaply to overseas investors.
Between 2014 and 2021, the four companies collectively paid out approximately NZ $8.7 billion in dividends to shareholders—even though their combined net profit over that period was around NZ $5.35 billion. This means they paid out about $3.7 billion more than they earned in profits.
Oh yes – I love it – I’m a NZ voter – please put up electricity prices so investors can take more money off me.

    • The fringe loops of the right on full display gordon, poverty, hate and racism intrenched in their policies.
