Can National really talk about the flooding after cutting so much money from Climate change?

Will rural voters prefer to drown rather than not vote National, NZF and ACT?

‘They’re not living it’: Farmers’ blunt response to flood support package

“Not enough,” was the blunt reaction of several flood-weary Tasman farmers following the announcement of a half-a-million-dollar Government-led support package.

As the sun returned to the soggy province and the clean-up switched to high gear, Agriculture Minister Todd McClay inspected flood-damaged farms and unveiled the funding package – of which $100,000 is tagged to the Farmers Adverse Events Trust, $100,000 for the horticulture sector and $300,000 will be given to the Mayoral Relief Fund.

Previously, the Government gave $100,000 to the region following the first flood event in June.

However, McClay’s announcement was met with a muted reaction from some badly affected farmers.

There is a political problem looming for the Political Right.

While they deny climate change and decimate Climate Change budgets, the extreme weather events continue to decimate their farming electorate.

On the one hand the Right and Big Dairy scream ‘climate alarmism’, their rural electorate are downing or burning or both.

The NZ Mainstream Media refuse point blank to connect the extreme weather events we have seen in the North of the South Island to climate change because they know it kicks up a fuss inside the agricultural community.

Instead we look to enslave beneficiaries to clean up the mess and announce that in 20 years the Government won’t bother bailing properties out (despite those Government’s exacerbating the pollution that is creating those weather events).

National took $2.4Billion out of the Climate Emergency Response Fund and have done bugger all in terms of preparing for more climate change…

Minister for the Environment missing in action in Budget 2025 – Greens

Budget 2025 makes it crystal clear that this Government has no interest in protecting nature or securing a liveable future for our tamariki.

Budget 2025 makes it crystal clear that this Government has no interest in protecting nature or securing a liveable future for our tamariki.

“Our environment is in crisis. This Budget proves the Government simply does not care,” says the Green Party’s spokesperson for Environment, Lan Pham.

“They have no understanding that their so-called ‘laser-focus’ on the economy makes them blind to the indisputable fact that there is no economy without a functional environment.

“Not only is there no new funding in Budget 2025 for environmental protection, but they’ve taken cuts further than we even thought possible. They’ve raided the waste levy and initiatives which were designed to provide at least some basic level of protection for te taiao.

“While our communities are crying out for action, the Minister for the Environment is nowhere to be seen.

…the Fossil Fuel Industry technology National placed all their emissions target into turns out to be fake…

Carbon capture: Pivotal project for cutting greenhouse gas emissions looks shaky

A critical part of the government’s plan for cutting greenhouse gas emissions over the next five years appears to have fallen over.

A huge chunk of the government’s climate success rests on a single project, which the owner now says probably won’t happen because it doesn’t stack up commercially

…the Government slashed public transport, slashed making the Ferries rail capable and allowed corporate dairy off any inclusion of methane based on the belief this questionable technology would work just as we are now being told it won’t?

  1. Willis took $2.4 billion from disaster relief fund for general wasteful spending .Clearly that cash would be handy right now .I hope the landlords are loving the cash that could have paid for ferries ,a hospital or in this case a natural disaster which is what the $2.4 b was supposed to be used for .

  2. After a significant flood less than a decade ago, the local council choose to blame climate change to hide the fact that they didn’t bother to check the mud traps (drains). The last thing these bozos need is more money. A good firm boot up the backside however? That might help.

  3. Funnily enough, the wairarapa hasn’t had a decent flood since 2004 but boy I was a doozy
We used to cop them all the time maybe now it’s just somewhere else that’s getting hit.

  4. Nathan and what about farmers do we have to keep bailing them out every time we have floods and droughts because they are the backbone of our country. The council are now being bullied by central government a government that claimed to support localism.

  5. Kraus the funding was for emergencies now it’s gone, given we are experiencing more environmental disasters isn’t it logical we have funds to help with recovery.
