Exclusive: Wellington mayoral candidate Ray Chung’s sex and drugs gossip about Tory Whanau

An email has emerged in which Wellington councillor and mayoral hopeful Ray Chung describes a New Year’s Eve drugs and sex orgy involving incumbent mayor Tory Whanau that she flatly denies ever happened.

Chung – who wants to become Wellington’s mayor in the upcoming local body election – wrote of Whanau in explicit terms having drug-fuelled “tempestuous sex” and making reference to her having “pendulous soft breasts”.

Whanau told the Herald the email contents are false and that she celebrated New Year’s Eve 2022 with ambassadors from the diplomatic corps and attended a rainbow community celebration.

Whanau said the email is an example of the “dehumanising” personal attacks she has experienced during her term as Wellington’s mayor – and part of the reason she is not running for the mayoralty again.

She said “I personally do not think [Chung] is fit for the mayoralty based on this email and other public comments he has made other the past few months.”

She said those comments included Chung saying she was “full of shit” in a Newstalk ZB interview.

There are many legitimate reasons to dislike Tory Whanau, but this creepy disgusting behaviour by Chung is dogs hit on your shoe level spite.

Chung has confirmed to the Herald he wrote the email and had no idea if the contents were true.

He said he did no fact checking but found it “interesting” and thought his fellow councillors would agree.

Oh fuck off you weird creep!

If the people of Wellington really want someone like Chung representing them after learning of how he led these sort of panty sniffer level character smears, well Wellington deserves to be burnt to the ground.

It’s a totally needless cruelty that speaks ill of Chung as a human being and as leader. The only honourable thing now he has been exposed is he stands down immediately.

  2. If Ray Chung FAILs or Refuses to provide the name of the Neighbour and the Neighbour’s son because both the Neighbour and the Son have the Right to Privacy shows up how Hypocritical and Misogynistic Chung is.

    He isn’t behaving n a manner that endears him with votes but using the vindictive and probably Misogynistic way of someone who is totally Unsuitable to be a Mayor of a city even if it’s Wellington.

    We have seen time and again the hatred this country has towards Female leaders. One would have thought that a country that was first in the world to let Women the Right to Vote wouldn’t behave in such a way but unfortunately it has done so.

    Chung is probably and ironically enough resorting to Chinee Whispers and the attitude that Boys Will Be Boys.

    Even though I am not a Christian there is that biblical quote of “He Who Is Not Without Sin be the First to Cast the First Stone”.

    Chung is showing his Hypocrisy to Preferring to Listen to Hear-Say when it comes to judging a Female. Would he apply the same judgment to himself, his neighbour or anyone else especially those he dislikes???!!!

    If I lived in Wellington and was a female(lets remember NZ probably has the highest population of females) then I wouldn’t vote for Ray Chung because of HIS actions even in an email based on HEARSAY. He has Shot himself in the foot thanks to HIS hypocrisy. Does Wellington Really Want That Guy as Its Mayor????!!

  5. Now I don’t want to defend Raywark Chung, his views on cutting the already cut to the bone Wellington City Council are even more disgusting than supposed ‘left wing’ councillors trying to sell the airport, but:
    1) A majority of female breasts can be fairly described as ‘pendulous’, it’s not an insult
    2) I don’t think anyone is suggesting that Miss Whanau has had implants put in
    3) Personally I’d think a lot better of her if she hadn’t been hanging out with, for example, the American ambassador, as opposed to some random bloke from Kanpur Road
