The bigotry of Mark Mitchell’s low expectations – why claiming homelessness is a personal choice is the song of the cretin

Mayor says police minister ‘well informed’ in saying ‘sleeping rough is a lifestyle choice here’

Police Minister Mark Mitchell, at an event on Thursday to launch a “beat team” to patrol the city centre on foot, said many rough sleepers chose to be on the street.

Asked on Thursday how the new team of five constables and a sergeant would help with the issue, Mitchell said the officers knew most of the people, and their circumstances.

“A lot of rough sleepers have got somewhere they can go and sleep, but that’s a lifestyle choice they choose to come out onto the street,” Mitchell said.

“There’s a whole lot of reasons for that. Might be mental health reasons, or they just feel a sense of community when they come together.”

“I can’t comment for every rough sleeper, but from my own experience, rough sleepers have got somewhere to go,” Mitchell said.

One of the important myths of neoliberalism is that the individuals ‘success’ is theirs, and theirs alone, so the Government can fuck off taxing them.

When your ‘success’ is all your own victory (and not a by-product of the society and civilisation you have grown up in) then all failure is personal as well.

The bigotry of Mark Mitchell’s low expectations mean that the homeless are their own problem and as such, nothing to do with Government policy or the failures of civil society.

Homelessness is soaring because this Government have killed off public housing, strangled emergency housing and set up more punishments for state tenants.

By blaming the Homeless for being Homeless, old Pontius Pilate Mark Mitchell is washing his hands of the problem.

  1. Well, it could be a ‘life-style choice’ mainly because there is no other choice.
Mitchell didn’t get his job by being honest with himself.
Dishonesty and cruelty are this CoC’s hallmarks.

He’s another one who is completely out of his depth.
When you are dishonest, you can easily fail to acknowledge the real truth. Especially when it’s inconvenient/expensive and your boss is encouraging you to take the easy way out.

  2. “A lot of rough sleepers have got somewhere they can go and sleep, but that’s a lifestyle choice they choose to come out onto the street,” Mitchell said.
Well that is true. They have choices.
They can sleep under a bridge or in a shop doorway, on a park bench or at a bus stop.
Mind you they cannot sleep in dwellings because they do not have them.
For that matter it is a democracy. I can sleep under a bridge if I want to.
    So can Mark Mitchell.

    • Some are fortunate and can couch-surf. But the people with the couches will be having difficulties too and might get in a rage so might choose when to stay on the streets where it is safer.
Urban Dictionary on Couch Surfer – one of many examples.
*Couchius Surferius Maximus* Couch Surfer (n) 1. An adult who is homeless and finds various couches to sleep on & homes to survive in until they are put out.
      2. One who can NOT lease rental property for various reasons & goes from couch to couch because their living situation is uncertain day to day. Informal: a broke ass nigga/bitch
Christopher Cool Cutta Edwards, the original couch surfer has no job, shitty credit & is a broke ass nigga who is forced to couch surf on women’s couches.

These are hard-working people in trying to stay alive and cope, which is hard work as fatty Mitchell, the soft gummint pollie wouldn’t be able to handle.

  3. Mark Mitchell supplied the murderous US occupation of Iraq, to help US soldiers rape and torture and kill the people of Iraq. He is a monster, a beast without a soul. We should hardly expect him to have any more sympathy for vulnerable people here.

  4. Botox boy I think, is Mitchell. Smooth cheeked and smooth tongued and hollow inside like an Easter chocolate rabbit. An example of a boy brought up to worship science when it deals with materials rather than the human mind and culture which also have their equations that need to be learned. We only need to look at our present holders of Parliamentary seats and their droppings to foresee where AI might lead us if it so decides.

  5. It seems logical that the homeless would take the best option for where to spend the night, which means that any other options they have are worse than sleeping on the street in town. I would have thought that the next question to be answered is “what other options do they have?” but our lapdog media and deceitful politicians don’t want to know anything that spoils their “nothing to see here” viewpoint. I wonder how many of those choosing the street have been removed from motels in the rush to reduce social housing costs?

  6. If I want to be are rough sleeper, then I have that choice.
I could choose to sleep under a bridge any time I like.
But despite my portly girth, I do feel the cold terribly.
And if I’m outside in the evening, I can become a mosquito magnet.
And not being on my waterbed usually throws my back out.
And of course central heating is virtually a human right.
And I would miss my Marks & Spencer duvet, and fitted sheets.
And my skin care routine requires good overnight humidity.
And I get anxious without the comforting glow of my bedside batman lamp.
If I slept rough, it wouldn’t surprised me if I got mugged by some bottomfeeder.
Come to think of it, we need a better police minister, instead of that current idiot, whot’s his name.
    What were we talking about?

  7. Dicksonian attitudes rife as homelessness and poverty increases exponentially. Now ‘ forced’ work gangs drawn from the ranks of unemployed to clean up weather disasters on farms. What next? Poorhouses?
