Resource Management Act: Govt can override councils under RMA shake-up, Chris Bishop announces
The Government will take back power from local councils if their decisions are going to negatively impact economic growth, development or employment.
In a speech to business leaders at the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, Housing and RMA Reform Minister Chris Bishop has announced Cabinet will insert a new regulation power into the Resource Management Act (RMA).
“We have had decades of local councils trying to make housing someone else’s problem and we have a planning system that lets them get away with it,” Bishop said.
Accusing local government of being one of the largest barriers to housing growth, Bishop said the provision would be added into the RMA amendment legislation currently before Parliament.
“The RMA’s devolution of ultimate power to local authorities just has not worked. There may be people who say ‘why don’t you just leave councils to it?’ The reality is, central Government has an intense interest in the way councils plan and allow their cities to function,” Bishop said in a statement.
Mungo no understand.
When Māori sought to have their interests in water defined (thanks to John Key privatising 49% of our hydro electricity) it was an existential race war where da Māors was stealing da water.
Yet, Bishop just announces that the State will over rule local councils and not a whisper.
With Māori seeking recognition of existing property rights it was the end of Western Civilisation but when Chris Bishop overrides local democracy and dictatorially forces their hand, not a sound.
When Māori note their interest in a property right it’s the apocalypse, when the Right directly take over local council democracy, no one blinks.
When it’s white, it’s allllllll right. When it’s Brown, it’s going down.

Amazing the back flip from national here .They preached LOCALISIM before the election and now have flipped to wanting to take over councils and run everything from Bishops office .The Maaaris are stealing the water was their catch cry before the election and now they are giving it to pakeha to prepare it for sle to off shore investors along with our health and transport networks .Not long now before you will be paying to use the roads your grandparents built and paid for .Remember all those electricity generation companies and power lines that were built and paid for in the 50s and 60s then sold off to be paid for again .
That’s right Gordon. We have been robbed and we will continue to be robbed, until we depose these robber barons.
Bishop, another amateur, who despite his educational achievements, felt that being a tobacco lobbyist was a good career move. Couldn’t have been much else on offer for him. Sounds like a last resort thing.
Bob the first has all the wisdom and class of a slippery wet fart ,,, always greasing up NActs arse is just him trying to return home …..
It’s rhetorical to say ”Has Bob the Fart ever made a coherent point in any thread ‘ ,,, of course not, he’s incapable ,, but he enjoys being unpleasant ,, sharing his no brains stink to ‘lefties’ is the best he can do.
I’ve taken to upsetting the herd mentality at Kiwi Blogs echo chamber ,,, but unlikes Bobs greasy flatulence I write posts based on facts ,,,, a herd of right wing sheep bleating on about ‘cultural maaaarrrrxists’ or ‘the maaaaarrrrriisrhetorical ‘ don’t like that .
And to Farrars credit he does let them through and post them up after a bit of time “in moderation” ….
As an example I’ve just re-posted what I posted there , here https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2025/06/20/the-daily-blog-open-mic-20th-june-2025/
Bob the Fart has no substance ,,,,,, :0
