‘Run it’ goes underground: Backyard version of tackle game live streamed

Another “run it straight” event took place in a backyard last night, taking a more scaled-down approach to the controversial craze.

My fear is that it is the cash prizes for this are generating a need for many men to try it.

Unemployment is 5.1% but 9% for Māori and Pacifica.

It is desperation that is driving these contests, not legitimate competition.

It’s like ‘Running Man’, but without Arnold.

  1. The state has to pay for the injuries!! Why wouldn’t they? We (taxpayers) pay for all injuries incl people injured while doing crimes and/or escaping from prison. We’re screwed– Singapore we are not.

  2. When money is tight rational thinking disappears and people make risky decisions. Punishing those involved is unlikely to stop it so there needs to be better ways for people to provide for their needs.

  3. Money will be a factor, but not the only one. Some guys will enjoy it and the puzzle is why they do. Here’s a guess to add to everyone else’s guesses. Contests like this provide a reward (the status of victor and money) that is pretty much proportional to the effort you put in and the skill you possess. That is completely unlike the modern workplace where you hammer away and get nowhere economically. A few senior managers and owners take the lion’s share of it while the supermarkets and banks rob you. The high of the physical contest is where you feel authentic and for a brief time escape the alienation of daily life.
