1. I would have been impressed with Winston if he deported the Israeli ambassador and other Israeli apologists (they might be NZ citizens which is a bit of a technically) as then we get noticed.

Greta and her honest and truthful ilk (unlike wokeists, female trans and male trans, upstarts on their conniptions, money and house stackers, and others with favourite net, and morality-blinding, obsessions) are bloody annoying because she keeps on trying to make people think about real, present problems in society and the world.    That is the problem folks. There are huge numbers of people who can’t give an arse and save all their affrontedness for favourite whines and moans recipients about matters essentially trivial. Such people will have to be left outside the committed, true-hearted groups trying to find the balanced society. You may even have to move on beyond family and friends; the first saved group begins, but leaves options for the second wave to get their shit together and join at some point, and the rest take their chance if they can work out what it is and find it.

   It is as in Germany for Jews during the 1930s – the thoughtful noticed dire trends and started taking flight, then some countries closed off to the Jews wishing to move, then they could be sponsored or something, but some couldn’t believe that their own country, Germany, could fall so low. And I feel it in my bones that there is a similar shadow over much of the earth now.

   Greta is the weathercock we should look to seriously for future direction; Winston is the weathercock to utilise now if his direction points to a practical useful path. 7. It’s wrong and irresponsible to keep making a “genocide” accusation.
   Don’t get me wrong – Netanyahu and his thug extreme right wing collaborators should have some serious questions asked of them legally around proportionality. If they end up imprisoned that’d be just fine. They have to go.
   But genocide is a very specific legal term full of hysterical and damning emotive condemnation. It was coined in relatively recent history by a Jewish lawyer to capture the systemic factory-like industrial slaughter of half the Jewish population of the world by the Nazis. Uneducated (about the actual meaning of the term) non lawyers screaming “genocide” at Israel only serves to make decent Israelis wonder if the World has lost its mind. They are traumatized and scared by Oct 7 and the ongoing hostage situation. That’s a fact. That fear is manipulated by the awful Netanyahu, Ben Gvir and Smotrich. When we invert a term like “genocide” and carelessly use it against the very people who were the victims of a real genocide we do not persude them – we drive them away by our unfairness and lack of understanding. Ask any fair minded lawyer and there’s almost no chance genocide has been committed by Israel. The same cannot be said of Hamas. However ask any fair minded lawyer and they (and I) agree that Netanyahu is a war criminal. So are Ben Gvir and Smotrich. So are Hamas. The needless embrace of an inflammatory and plainly wrong allegation doesn’t help anyone. It smacks of a desire to collectively punish Jews as a whole. It simply makes those making that allegation feel gleeful about sticking it to them and diminishing their intergenerational trauma. It demonstrates a wilful effort to disregard any form of balanced or constructive assessment of the facts. Israel is a democracy. A strong one. Let’s help them get rid of this awful leader. And equally let’s help Gazans get rid of their extremist leaders.

     Before the October 7th attack, you could not claim using the term ‘genocide’ was inflammatory and wrong. You might have been able to claim a ‘culture genocide’, but you couldn’t use the term ‘genocide’ because you are right, the threshold for its use is rightfully high and because the shadow of the Holocaust demands its use be genuine.

     The disproportionate response by Israel however has changed that and the technical terms laid out for genocide have been arguably made and met by Israel’s disproportionate response.

     You are claiming it is the industrialised concentration camps of the Nazis that only define genocide, that’s not true.

     The Jewish lawyer tasked with creating the legal term of genocide had to examine the Turkish genoicde of the Christian Armenians as his template and their atrocity didn’t use industrial death camps.

     There were no death camps in Rwanda either.

     Israel’s malignant hatred and the way they have perpetrated the most obscene violence on civilians, shooting children in the head, the trophy selfies of their soldiers with the toys of the homes they have blown up, the use of sexual torture and rape on civilians in custody, using food as punishment, the horrific civilian death toll, the 200 000 dead from the byproducts of blowing up every hospital, the forced deportations – they have all moved Israel’s actions into genocide.

     Somehow you seem to think being an ethnic cleansing war crime is more tolerable than hearing the word genocide.

     That is why I find your position and arguments so utterly bad faith.

     • This is so true DB and mincing over terms is hardly the point now considering the utter destruction in Gaza, which has effectively become a huge concentration camp at the hands of Israel and the US and any other bloody country that supplies munitions to Israel. It was very bloody clear what was going on under Biden and the weapons continued to flow no matter what Israel said. The weak democrats allowed this to happen and it’s not over yet. Banishing two politicians is a joke compared to what must be done NOW to stop Israel.
