Wait?

WHAT!

National accused of putting needs of banks before everyday Kiwis

The National Party is being accused of putting the needs of banks before everyday Kiwis after introducing legislation that could mean two big Australian-owned lenders avoid paying millions of dollars in refunds.

This is unbelievable.

Currently the law says that if the greedy venal banks screw us over, they must provide a full refund of all interest and all fees, no matter how small or minor the error is.

National is changing that to allow the Banks to appeal what they should pay back!

Why allow them to have that power?

The law says they have to provide a full refund of all interest and all fees, what National is giving them if the power to negotiate that down to whatever they think they should pay!

The Minister for Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Scott Simpson, said the bill before Parliament did not affect the class action.

“What it does is it gives the courts the ability to use their discretion about what will be a fair and equitable outcome to the case,” he said.

“Banks, no matter what you may or may not think of them, are surely entitled to the same judicial fairness as any other entity or person.”

Fuck the Banks and Fuck Scott Simpson!

These greedy pricks are being allowed to write their own rules, and National are letting them!

Don’t you wish National treated us the way they treat the Banks?

We need to be kinder to individuals and crueller to corporations.

  1. So a small business sells an item that’s not of merchantable quality and they refund the full price under consumer law and most of those businesses have no problem giving their customers a Fair Go.

A big bank can charge a spurious fee, an incorrect fee, a mistaken fee, a false fee, a computer glitch fee, apply an incorrect interest rate, give your money to a scammer and then decide not to pay it back. Cool!

Does that mean the bank is more powerful than the government?

  2. Do any of the parties on the left have the balls or the vote-winning nous to stop banks from charging 3% on every pay wave transaction?
