"There must be some way out of here", said the joker to the thief

Two extraordinary moments of political kneecappings over the last 48 hours.

Winston’s brutal take down of Luxon with his criticism of the PM talking to other Trading partners without his say so highlights how weak Chris Luxon truly is…

‘Call me next time’: Peters disparages Luxon’s tariff talks

Winston Peters has chastised the prime minister for his spree of phone calls with world leaders about the US trade war, and advised politicians to “tone down”.

The foreign minister told RNZ Christopher Luxon had not consulted with him ahead of the calls, adding “I hope that he’ll get my message and he’ll call me next time”.

Luxon made a speech to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce on Thursday morning and proposed the European Commission work more closely with countries signed up to the Trans-Pacific trade pact – known as the CPTPP – to champion the rules-based trade order and provide some stability and certainty.

It came after the United States retaliated against China by hiking tariffs to 125%, while placing a 90-day pause on retaliatory tariffs for other countries. The US has since upped the China tariff to 145%.

Luxon followed his Wellington speech up with a series of phone calls that night with Indo-Pacific leaders and the European Union to gauge how they’re interpreting the tit-for-tat trade war and implications it might have for their economies.

Speaking from Tonga today, Peters offered some advice to the prime minister.

“Markets lose their nerve. Share market speculators lose their nerve. Politicians should not lose their nerve, and that’s my advice,” he told RNZ.

“There’s no need to react at this point in time. Let’s first find out what we’re dealing with, let the dust settle in.

“My advocacy from the day this matter came up with the Trump tariffs – our job is to be ultra careful, ultra forward thinking in the interest of, guess what, the New Zealand economy, that’s what matters, not our egos.

“So my advice to politicians is tone down, wait till you see and know what’s going on.”

…that’s the Deputy Prime Minister publicly admonishing the Prime Minister!

As ruthless as that was, the decision by National to not allow Minister Tama Potaka to speak against the Treaty Principles referendum was cruel and unusual torture even for the National Party!

Tama has eaten dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat after dead rat for the National Party and it’s anti-Māori, anti-Treaty agenda.

Here was an opportunity to for the Minister, the Māori voice inside National to denounce this terrible legislation and yet National refused to allow him to do that and instead let 2 back bench MPS speak instead.

How demeaning to Tama’s mana was that?

Labour should reach out and ask if he wants to cross the floor and join them!

  1. Peters is at the e d of his life and does not have kiwisaver. Therefore he should shut the fuck up on the trade war because it has no impact on him. Meanwhile kiwisaver is losing millions.

    • You do not have the sense of political manoeuvring for best outcome LC.
Winston has and he is where you aren’t. So take note of what he says if your opinion will ever amount to something.

  2. No more demeaning for Potaka than for the National ministers forced to toe the party line and vote against Seymour’s bill.
Luxon is an empty vessel, a figure head controlled by Keys iwi and corporate elites.
Winston was 100 percent dead right here.

    • winston needs to remember he is a bit player and soon to be demoted .Luxon should be getting a new outlet for our goods and cut the ambilical cord with the toxic USA .Why not trade with tariff free countries if we can .

    • How many were there? Winston Peters acts with a completely misplaced air of arrogance, way too often, now. He has his moments, but they are becoming few and overshadowed by his willingness to dance with the delusional for a vote. On the flip side it’s not a dance, he is being genuine, and is as mad as a bicycle. Either way it doesn’t look good

  3. Potaka has sucked the kumara by going with Nats .He is the remaining token maori remaining in the cabinet .Now he may realize what it was like for his grandparents and others growing up and trying to make a living in NZ after being striped of there land and mana .

  4. Fuck Potaka he is weak he is a kupapa and an absolute joke, he should not be our Maori Minister he is suppose to look after our best interest.
