The Oxford Debate Champion, the working class hero, the Labour Party brawler, Willie Jackson turned his speech into an attack on ACT and their bad faith Treaty Principles Referendum.

In a fierce and fiery speech, Jackson zeroed in on the hypocrisy of ACT and the real reason they pushed it in the first place…

Mr Speaker

This race baiting political stunt has been a right wing obscenity masquerading as equality.

You should be ashamed of yourself on that side of the House for allowing this hate into our Parliament!

What is most offensive  Mr Speaker is the way ACT and the Political Right have twisted the narrative to fit their racist agenda.

This debate was never about racial privilege or racial superiority!

It is about legal rights that Māori gained in a contract with the Crown!

The Treaty debate is not about race rights, it is and always has been about legal rights Māori have in their contract with the Crown!

…this is why Jackson is so good!

He argues the tyranny of the majority doesn’t mean it’s right or good!

He drops the hammer at the end by saying: “I have had time to reflect on my first speech when I called David Seymour a liar. I have not changed my mind. When it comes to the Treaty of Waitangi, you will always be a liar,”

The Speaker then kicked Willie out of Parliament, for a second time.

When Willie Jackson made that comment, David Seymour was squatting down speaking to Erica Stanford.

Rawiri Waititi protested that Jackson’s comment about Seymour being a “liar” was not a reflection on Seymour’s character, but the fact he was on the ground.

History will remember Willie’s defiance and his stance against this redneck revenge fantasy.

  1. By going beyond what is written in the Treaty makes everyone puffed up. The treaty principals bill is neither backed by history nor tradition. We will understand the spirit of the meaning of the treaty if we don’t go beyond the words that were written and on first principals those ordained by the treaty with the duty to honour it namely the Prime Minister is the only one that can unite everyones traditions.

Talk about putting the boot in. lol

    • Brilliant, it could only have been bettered if he had said Seymour was lying in the gutter. Fat Brownlee ( and he’s only getting fatter) had nothing in response to Waititi’ point of order.

  3. Chris Hipkins speech was a masterclass, no wonder his popularity is burgeoning, he is the real deal Kiwi PM material.

    • No Willy is the natural leader, with all the charisma and qualities, so why isn’t he?? Chippy is LINO riffraff who occasionally comes out with a pithy sentence…like grubby bill from a grubby deal. Yeah beside Willy …this is nothing much.
