I thought TVNZ had sunk to a new low when they commissioned ‘Fuck Boy Island’ but this new decision to film 4 NZ episodes of the chase in Australia asks the question, why do we have TVNZ at all?
TVNZ commissions The Chase New Zealand, filmed in Australia
The show’s host and premiere date are yet to be announced but TVNZ confirmed that ITV Studios Australia has been commissioned to produce the limited run, with filming taking place in Sydney, Australia.
Successful applicants will have to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
WTF?
Firstly, it should be filmed here in NZ, not Australia, secondly, and this is the biggest issue, successful NZ contestants have to cover their now travel and accommodation?
The Chase is insanely popular with the lonely and the old. For some, it’s a religious experience and many would love to be a contestant, but forcing those apply8ing to pay their own costs and accommodation because TVNZ is too cheap to host the show in NZ is a real kick I the teeth for a media organisation that is ostensibly NZs main public broadcaster.
What is the point of having TVNZ if you have to pay to play?
It’s mean spirited and cheap and I really hope the lonely elderly people they select are forced to set up ‘go-fund-me-accounts’ because that would be humiliating for TVNZ.
How much lower and cheaper can TVN go?

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

The reality that NZ is merely a bit player in the world .Hell we are not even the size of hundreds of cities world wide .
Outrageous absolutely outrageous!
Anyone who has any power and a budget from gummint to play with is bent on insulting us as simpletons. Why don’t we work this up on a jokey basis and thwart the scheme?
Tales of simpleton behavior have often been collected into books, and early joke books include many simpleton jokes. In ancient Greece, Hierokles created such a collection. In the United Kingdom, the famous Joe Miller’s Jests is highly inclusive of simpleton jokes.
(If we work on lots of jokes we might be regarded as good enough to publish a book, as they did in the 1700-1800s and lots of funny things have happened here since then.)
(Joe Miller-type ones:)
Joke 99 states:
A Lady’s Age happening to be questioned, she affirmed she was but Forty, and called upon a Gentleman that was in Company for his Opinion; Cousin, said she, do you believe I am in the Right, when I say I am but Forty? I ought not to dispute it, Madam, reply’d he, for I have heard you say so these ten Years.[4]
Joke 234 speaks of:
A famous teacher of Arithmetick, who had long been married without being able to get his Wife with Child. One said to her ‘Madam, your Husband is an excellent Arithmetician’. ‘Yes, replies she, only he can’t multiply.'[5]
