The new Roy Morgan Poll follows the RNZ Poll this week:
Roy Morgan’s New Zealand Poll for March 2025 shows the National-led Government (National, ACT & NZ First) on 47% (down 0.5% points) and the Labour-Greens-Maori Party Parliamentary Opposition on 47.5% (unchanged) with both failing to muster a majority of support.
RNZ had the same result, the support is on a knife edge
The low level of don’t know at 6% was interesting in the RNZ Poll as the number its usually around 10% suggesting the polarisation from social media hate algorithms are pushing people off the fence.
The lack of actual policy from Labour, Greens and Maori Party are hurting them as voters comity e to hurt from the cost of living crisis and growing poverty.
Over half a million Kiwis need support from food banks each and every month, homelessness is spiking and public services are in meltdown.
The biggest insight is from Roy Morgan who notes the gender split:
Men favour National/ ACT/ NZ First by 20%; while women favour Labour/ Greens/ Maori by 20%
The ‘gender split’ continues in March with a majority of 56.5% of men favouring the National/ ACT/ NZ First coalition government compared to 36.5% supporting the opposition Labour/ Greens/ Maori Party.
In a striking contrast, on an overall basis women remain heavily behind the opposition Labour/ Greens/ Maori on 58% – well ahead of the governing National/ ACT/ NZ First on 38%.
Support for the National/ ACT/ NZ First governing coalition is highest amongst older men aged 50+ at 59% compared to 39% for the opposition Labour/ Greens/ Maori Party. Support for National (39%) and NZ First (10.5%) is higher amongst this demographic than any other age or gender group analysed.
Younger men aged 18-49 are also similarly in support of the National/ ACT/ NZ First governing coalition on 54% compared to 34% who support the Opposition Labour/ Greens/ Maori Party. Support for ACT (10.5%) is higher among this demographic than any other age or gender group analysed.

Apparently ‘all men are rapists’ wasn’t a great slogan for recruitment.

As much as I hate to say it there is some truth to this.
Lots of feminists go around talking about ‘toxic’ masculinity and try to tell men how to be masculine. Which doesn’t work because on a very basic level they don’t respect masculinity and really do not understand or care about our struggles and what we go through. And you can’t teach about some thing you do not respect.
But I also don’t like Andrew Tate and other hyper traditionalists telling people how to be masculine.
Actually I really don’t like any one telling me or other men how to be men, this isn’t a one size fits all world and these lessons are frankly useless and counter productive an reak of control freak tendencies. Being a man, and what that means to you is some thing you figure out on your own, and some thing you define on your own.
The best thing you can do for young men is to give them the tools to figure out their own idenity for themselves, and stop trying to control every little thing. There is no short cut to figuring out who you are or what you stand for its a hard process that every one has to figure out for themselves.
The best thing you can do for young men is give them a father.

Except I didn’t deny the role father’s play. I noted that it’s actually a complex topic and that your reduction makes a meaningful discussion impossible in favor of scoring cheap internet points.
The entire discussion of “toxic masculinity” was stupid from the beginning to the end. Somehow people have made it be about masculinity and not, you know, toxicity.
To be clear there are really serious issues with the male population. But the issues with the male part has very little to do with masculinity. Replacing the masculinity portion does jack shit about the toxic portion. And let’s be real, many of the critiques come from toxicly vitriolic do gooders that’s barely distinguishable from what it’s attacking.
Toxic masculinity is nothing more than poisonous second wave feminism to men. It’s the same “you are a bad (gender) if you do not conform to our narrow definition of appropriate gender behavior.”
There is no group that does that where father’s embrace ideological torture, and attack and harm anyone who does not comply sufficiently in the correct way. Dad’s on there own can’t fix something that’s happening to them too.
And it’s these people that are the problem, not masculinity. The whole guilt, insults and the need to be right reinforces the concept that “true men” must walk away.
We fix this by giving boys cool shit to do. not by swapping narrow definitions.

Having a father present in their life is the most consistent determinant of good life outcomes for boys.
All the anti male, anti nuclear family bullshit from the feminist left and oddball alphabet people have thus weakened the family unit and the nurturing role men should be playing in their children’s lives.
My eyes are getting sore from rolling at all the femsplaining opinion articles in media by feminist women telling us young men are broken when they are a big part of the problem.
Good point Sam. The ‘toxicity’ may be real enough, but it is not an essential or innate characteristic of being masculine. If behaviour is toxic, look to social, economic, historical or other material factors that may be pushing boys in that direction.
I remember a boy who’s father died and his mum remarried. The new father bashed the hell out of him. Your idea works in theory however the father must have a social conscience first.

National has inflicted some necessary pain to correct the ship and the country is now back on course and despite that popularity is still high.Roll on 2026 to lock in 3 more years of prosperity.

For one energy prices are about 20% higher. There is absolutely zero valid reasons why The National Party is Harming New Zealand.
Totally agree Trevor – what we all needed was massive tax cuts for landlords and tobacco companies, several million dollars sunk beneath Cook Strait with still no replacement ferries, and massive layoffs forcing even more people to the food banks. Just to be clear, this is sarcasm.

I kind of agree – blaming the problem on the woke misses the fact that the majority of men are naturally attracted to the right-wing world view – a kind of ‘toughen up’, ‘why should everyone get a medal’, ‘don’t expect a hand out if you aren’t going to help yourself’, ‘the woke (multi-culturalism) are destroying Western (white) civilization’ etc. Hoskings, Plunket, Laws – the common sense, down to earth bloke.
I think this just fits with many peoples world view and life experience and has less to do with whatever so called ‘wokery’ is going on culturally or politically.

I don’t think it is the fatherless ones voting for the COC in fact the fatherless ones are probably not voting at all. What I have noticed with a lot of our pakeha men is that some of them believe all the shit they hear on ZB. And I have listened to them on talk back and many don’t know the true facts too much scaremongering. I also noticed and experience how nasty they can be towards Maori women, not good and a sad reflection on our country. I guess when you have divisive figures like seemore and winstone what DO you expect.
