Let’s be clear.
The RMA mutilation is a right wing wet dream.
Of course the RMA needed reforming, it was a beaurcpatic headache, but the point of ensuring rampant vampire capitalism doesn’t spawn. billion nightmares is a valid one and what National have done here is simply write a manual for their donor mates to allow property rights to trump every other single issue.
Hilariously Chris Bishop wants ‘bipartisanship’…
RMA overhaul: Government seeks common ground with opposition
…but won’t concede anything for it that ‘bipartisanship’…
But it is a ‘take it or leave it’ approach, with the government not looking to make any major changes if opposition parties disagree with parts of the scheme.
…this is the bipartisan game that Chippy told the Auckland Chamber of Commerce he would slavishly adhere to.
At the Investment Summit Labour promised to allow National to do anything they want and we’ll put up with it.
It was an embarrassing display of acquiesce that would make Chuck Schumer blush!
Promising to be bipartisan and not rip down what has been built would be a reasonable position for Chippy to take if this wasn’t such a venally repellant hard right government riven by corporate interests and donor pet projects!
National just burnt everything Labour did and then have the fucking audacity to ask for more collective decision making while using our ‘stability’ as a sales pitch to foreign investment when ironically it’s their race stunts that are risking that ‘stability’.
Chippy has to be NZs emotional support Labrador after all the shit this hard right Government have thrown at people, but if his bark is as weak as his bite those young peoples aspirations will falter even further with more incremental Labour policy that never fixes the problems we face.
There’s hope for Chippy thanks to this Government’s venal racism…
Māori Development Minister unaware government ruled out Treaty clause in RMA reform
Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka says he’s “looked over” his “notes” since reporters asked what he thought about the removal of the Treaty clause in RMA reforms, but he didn’t want to get into “semantic gymnastics.”
The clause required the principles of the Treaty to be upheld, as is included in the current RMA.
RMA Minister Chris Bishop confirmed on Monday Cabinet had agreed not to include the clause in the coalition’s proposed new legislation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Potaka told reporters it was the first he’d heard about it when asked.
…they didn’t even bother explaining to poor old Tama that they had thrown him under the bus.
Jesus wept.
Thankfully the Māori Caucus will give Chippy the backbone Labour lacks because there’s no way Labour can agree to any RMA that doesn’t include the Treaty!
Not even a sausage roll can help swallow that dead rat.
National only want bipartisanship when it is helping generate consensus to screw Kiwis over.
Their view of the RMA is driven by an extreme libertarian property rights fetishisation that allows individuals to dow whatever they like on their own property regardless of the impact on the rest of the community.
It is a rich mans law written for those who wish to exploit under the guise of property rights.
Your property rights don’t trump our human rights.
This is a wet dream for corporations and the wealthy who wish to develop regardless of the environmental ramifications or cultural considerations.
Time for Labour to step up for the human rights of people over the property rights of the rich.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Labour need to go full on MAGA – Make Aotearoa Great Again. Declare a massive expansion of the state, take over all PPPs which end up costing us more, tax cuts for anyone earning income while instigating taxes on capital. Don’t hold back against this terrible Government. Label them for what they are – the worst Government we’ve had in a century. They’ve trashed the economy and now apparently tourism is our only hope! Where is the focus on “productivity” economy politicians have talked about for eons?
100 % correct kiwiana.
I agree Martyn. How can National expect to get the RMA right when they fail on so many issues…

I bet mumble wishes he was as good as David Parker .If he really wants cross party on this he should ask Parker to take over and implement the work he has done over the last few years and stop wasting money that has already been spent on this stuff .

I like dogs. Halt this defamation of their nobility or there may be legal repercussions taken with everyone being forced to bow wow wow to us or know the feel of our canines on their legs. Labour should try to be as useful to the country as working dogs are in the actual country.
If the COC is so concerned about property rights, they need to walk their talk and get rid of perpetual lease asap.
