The biggest take away from Winston’s insane State of the Nation speech is that he wants to roll Chippy.

There are those inside Labour who fear the Māori Party are too extreme and they need to cut a deal with Winston instead.

Seeing as the Nashy is likely to stand in Napier for NZF with a 3rd party list ranking, that plan has legs as long as Chippy isn’t the Leader.

Winston’s extraordinarily abusive attack on Chippy in the speech is a clear signal that if those Labour MPs want to cut a deal with NZF to avoid the Māori Party then they will need to replace Chippy as leader.

  1. Well that may be the analysis at plotting and scheming level for some–but–the principled position is a Labour/Green/TPM alliance for the 2026 election on progressive policies for the working class which TPM and Greens already support.

    An alliance would require NZ Labour to finally institute CGT and Wealth Tax same as the other two have in some form, and a new leader unless Chippy supports downgrading Rogernomics and makes a grovelling public apology. Otherwise it is a pointless exercise standing on the usual neo lib platform–and “hey, we are not Nashnull”…

  3. Seems this is the age of Total Control Freaks. Winnie has totally lost the plot! To do his speech with 30x spiteful references against Labour shows he is fast spiralling downwards. I’m not convinced Hipkins is the right man to lead Labour but this is for them to sort.
    We already have the Canadian billionaire, Grenon, with an unbalanced ego and an absolute LUST for power. Add in the horrible Trump, Musk, Putin and Netanyahu and it makes this one horrible toxic mix.

  4. I am in Hastings and the word I hear and have heard for 4/5 years is that Nash is not popular in Napier. He may therefore be a negative rather than a positive for NZFirst.

    • Nash is a complete idiot, a disgrace to his illustrious name and Labour. NZF is the last refuge of the wicked from Labour so wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to reinvent his political career there. Good news he is not well liked in his neighborhood.

Winston Trump or Donald Peters is just becoming a blathering idiot .He wants Chippy gone because Chippy will not work with him ever as he said before the last election .Therefore Trump – peters will have no where to go .I will be suprised if he gets 5% votes anyway so dont see him as am MP any way .

  6. There’s a wind of change in the air.

    In the USA the Democrats abandoned the working-class decades ago in favour of extremist fringe ideas and groups, so allowing Trump to reshape the entire Republican Party behind him and take the working-class vote off them.

    So, while the circumstances in NZ aren’t the same, they do rhyme somewhat. Just as Winston pointed out, the Labour leadership lacks working class credibility and thy support luxury ideas that won’t pass muster outside of a university or a teachers union meeting. Of the bunch Chippie is the ‘least worse’ choice having once actually been employed in a real job (at Ballance Fertilizers) so they’d better hang on to him.

    If Chippie wants Labour to prosper, he needs to find and promote some realists with practical experience within Labour’s ranks and eventually replace the dreadful freak show that is the current shadow cabinet.

    • Realists? It’s f’ing amazing how you think the current bunch of idiots (for the most part) are a better choice. Barbara Edmonds already seems more competent than Nicola Willis, and Kerian McNulty is a better option than that idiot Simeon ‘code’ Brown.

  7. I can’t see why Winston would want to roll Hipkins, he’s so bland he almost makes Luxon look interesting. I reckon he’s safe until Wood gets back in or McAnulty decides the time is right.

  12. It is not hard to be better than nicky no boats she has a history degree and aren’t they getting rid of humanities and social science degrees. Just more pulling up the ladder from a bunch of turds who have track record at making it harder for bottom feeders and they prefer top feeders’ scabs. Come election time the COC will be at one another’s throats.

  13. There is nothing wrong with Chippy as long as he has some half decent policies, he has a good chance, but he needs his coalition partners to raise their game. I am encouraging our Māori whanau to get themselves on the Māori roll, so we can have more seats and more power. Nobody can be as bad as the current government and the micky mouse PM we have whose destroying our country.
