Climate sceptic ACT MP attacks National
Mark Cameron says National ‘out of touch’ with farmers by sticking with Paris accord pledges; David Seymour downplays Cameron’s comments, saying National is (happily) doing the bare minimum on climate
ACT’s renowned climate sceptic MP Mark Cameron has accused National of being ‘out of touch’ with farmers by sticking with New Zealand’s Paris accord pledges to reduce emissions. David Seymourdownplays Cameron’s comments, saying National is (happily) doing the bare minimum on climate.
…it’s important that the rest of society sees what the climate deniers inside ACT really believe, and ACT’s professional redneck and climate denier in chief Mark Cameron going on Conspiracy Radio to denounce climate mitigation is the drunk Uncle no one talks to at Christmas moment we all wanted it to be.
The Political Right refuse to acknowledge climate change and pretend to agree to solutions that are designed to never do anything.
We need to hear what the climate deniers really believe to understand how they are holding up true legislative change to adapt to the reality of climate change, indeed they are actively enabling the polluters to remain beyond the reach of regulation.
ACTs Regulatory Standards Bill is the real danger to our Democracy, the Treaty Principles Referendum is the distraction!
In the Regulatory Standards Bill, ACT have tailored an economic straight jacket that will make it impossible to counter corporate interests ever again.
If this passes, Corporations will be able to hold up any environmental or taxation policy they don’t like.
The radical nature of this should terrify every New Zealander.
What is most concerning is that this legislation is the Atlas Network playbook…
And who, in turn, are the junktanks? Many refuse to divulge who funds them, but as information has trickled out we have discovered that the Atlas Network itself and many of its members have taken money from funding networks set up by the Koch brothers and other rightwing billionaires, and from oil, coal and tobacco companiesand other life-defying interests. The junktanks are merely the intermediaries. They go into battle on behalf of their donors, in the class war waged by the rich against the poor. When a government responds to the demands of the network, it responds, in reality, to the money that funds it.
…Oil, coal, tobacco, right wing billionaires, the fucking Koch brothers, dark money influencing our political system so much so that we see the exact same agenda being rolled out here!
Setting up a legislative body dominated by corporate interests to test future laws against would be the end of NZ as a functioning democracy.
Sure it would be Government elected by the people, but it be run by law decided by corporations…
This regulatory board would have sweeping oversight over all proposed government regulations, with the ability to make non-binding recommendations.
Furthermore, all proposed legislation or ministerial statutes (with a compliance review of all existing laws within 10 years) would fall under the purview of the new regulatory board, severely curtailing the ability of the government to regulate harmful business practices or corporate exploitation, even if such regulation is in the public interest.
More seriously the current version of the bill has removed any role of the courts to provide regulatory oversight or interpretation; a move that seems to be explicitly targeted at blocking any incorporation of Te Tiriti into the regulatory discussion.
…so the Courts would be effectively bypassed by this new regulatory board.
Mark Cameron accidentally told us what ACT really think as they quietly manoeuvre for the interests of the polluters.
We no longer have the luxury of pretending this isn’t happening.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Mark Cameron who?
A fuckwit groundswell red neck munter
“Out of touch”? What a f’ing douche bag. ACT just confirmed they have not one person on board who isn’t a complete arsehole.
The CoC is disintegrated. Good.
Seems like a reasonable plan to me. Based on recent examples, especially one at the Northern Club, our judges don’t have very good judgement.
There is so much evidence and increasing by the day, that climate change is happening and the outlook is getting grimmer by the day.
Don’t these right wing polies have – or hope to have – children, grandchildren?
Don’t they give any thought for future generations?
Ah, of course it is all about money and possessions now – bugger the future!
Assuredly, with that attitude, our future, and so many more billions living on earth, will be buggered, really buggered!
@Verity Verdant – 100%. Totally agree and well said.
Mark Cameron and people of his ilk make these moronic unintelligent and uneducated comments in a manner of self-assuredness, even though international climate scientists say and prove otherwise. But then, such is the uninformed mantra of the conspiracy theorist right wing narcissistic Trump acolytes.
Bernard Hickey commits a grave error in describing Cameron as a sceptic.
Cameron is a denier, and true to deniers he spends his efforts on ignoring the overwhelming evidence that doesn’t support his pre-supposed position and instead cherry-picking and amplifying anomalies and fostering doubt to lay groundwork for denial of fact.
Denial of fact and refusal to acknowledge the aggregate strength of all scientific evidence for a Scientific Theory [qualification as theory the closest thing to certitude the scientific method can get) is not scepticism. It’s mere contrarianism.
You proved the point in regards to your selective facts there Xeno.
Lomborg was NOT a scientist.
In the early 2000’s after his spell as the advisor for the right wing government his book, his ‘charlatan’ claims were debunked and he was found guilty of scientific dishonesty.
” Lomborg is accused of fabricating data, selectively and surreptitiously discarding unwanted results, of the deliberately misleading use of statistical methods, consciously distorted interpretation of the conclusions, plagiarisation of others’ results or publications, and deliberate misrepresentation of others’ results.”
Try his latest contributions twenty years on …. he’s changed his mind. Fancy that !
This guy is literally what is much of the problem with the world. He is so convinced that who he is and what he does is the pinnacle of humanity, he cannot in any way shape or form cognitively assess criticism of farming. He cannot accept any evidence about how farming is bad. He’s like a fundamentalist Muslim or Christian, so weeded to their belief and faith that nothing can move them. Regardless of the mountains of evidence this man’s brain is now a closed loop, unable to see anything outside. A very poor choice for a leader.
