The vast, vast, vast swathe of Auckland has NO IDEA the roads are about to be privatised.
They are just trying to grind out a living during a cost of living crisis in a. gridlocked city AND THEN they will be told they are being charged for that.
The bullshit used to support congestion charges are that when they are adopted it sees a decrease in emissions and traffic, but in every single city they have tried this in they have high density public transport, in Auckland we have shit public transport!
Congestion charges will only cause more poverty and misery because there isn’t any fucking public transport infrastructure.
When nAucklanders get blindsided by this, they will scream for blood and demand to know who did it, so your starting hatred should go to the Boomer King, then National, then ACT, then NZF, then Labour and then the Greens.
The Māori Party were the ONLY ONES who refused to vote for this.
Watching the coming shock wave of fury from Aucklanders when they are told how much they will have to pay to sit in gridlock will be beautiful.

The vast majority of the poor don’t own cars. So this will effect the middle classes most. Wiat until the see the underground road charges. In Brisbane Australia on a regular work day it’s a minimum $60 for the day. I mean retail is just going to get fucked over in so many ways they must love it.

Now, “boomer” is definitely an identity, i.e. an inherent characteristic that an individual cannot do anything about, such as gender, race or age. By calling Brown a “boomer” you are undermining class solidarity by focusing on identity. This is because it attributes Brown’s willingness to punish the poor and middle class with a regressive flat tax to his being a certain age, not to the insulating effect of his wealth. And there are plenty of non-wealthy boomers who will be caught by this charge.
By the way, to make congestion charging non-regressive, make it a fixed percentage of the market value of the car. Sure, there’s some back-end IT plumbing to enable that, but it is much fairer as a result, because it equalises the deterrent effect of the charges across the population.

Public transport should be free ,that would fix congestion ASAP .
The beauty of these schemes that no one ever realises until it’s too late is that they are designed by global far right think tanks like the Atlas Network, so it’s not really even about congestion charges or pollution or increasing productivity through better traffic flows. Sure, that’s a bonus.
It’s all about validating them tracking you and watching every movement you make.
