Education Minister waiting for answers on school lunches scheme
A planned meeting between Education Minister Erica Stanford and Associate Education Minister David Seymour to discuss ongoing school lunch problems did not go ahead this morning after the ACT leader’s caucus meeting ran late.
The two ministers were due to meet on Tuesday morning and Stanford said it had been called “to go through some of the issues on his school lunch programme to make sure they are being cleared up”.
She said she expected school lunches should reach a higher standard.
“I think if we are spending taxpayers’ money, we have an obligation to provide a quality service.”
However, a spokesperson for Seymour said the ACT Party caucus meeting ran over time and he then had to attend a committee meeting. Stanford today said she was in her office and waiting for Seymour at the allotted time.
“I was in my office just after 11.30 for the meeting,” she said. “Any further questions about the school lunch programme probably need to be directed to him.”
Shit just got real, Seymour stood up the Education Minister and clearly has no intention of being held accountable for the corporate slop he is serving up.

Seymour isn’t bothering because the whole plan is to underfund the school in food programme, sabotage it and kill it all off and Nicola Willis admitted there was an open question over whether it would continue.
What ACT has done is what the Right are doing to all public services..
…you voted for this NuZilind, this is what you wanted!
Policy cruelty, culture war revenge fantasies and corporate control of public services.
YOU voted for this malice and spite, YOU allowed your post-Covid bitterness to be manipulated by the Hard Right to empower coproarions over the common good.
Maybe you need to take a long hard look in the mirror Kiwi.
A. Long. Hard. Look.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

No major time for Erica, but…she does get out and about and will have picked up the vibes from Principals, teachers, teacher aids, parents…and even kids on the slops regime.
All this from three parties that claimed New Zealanders were not getting good value for money from public services. The companies delivering the school lunches need to be held to account or have the contract removed. These companies signed an agreement, yet they did not have the capacity or capability to deliver.

Guess who’s really running the country Mr.8%
Is that the Maori Party when they are in attendance?
Is that the NZ First Party when they are in attendance?
Should be only one minister in charge of Education anyway.
Of course they wanted the original scheme killed. They don’t want ‘community’ built around schools.
Jesus Chris stand up for your minister for christ sake .Oh thats right she is a she so she can bend over .Hell I might let the DOD grab her pussy .
There seems to be more or a focus on school lunches than academic performance by our teachers and their various mouthpieces – I wonder why.
Of course Frank, the Teachers Union are using the children to drive their left wing agenda, which incidentally has nothing to do with lunch.
Of course Frank, the ACT CoC are using the children to drive their right wing agenda, which incidentally has nothing to do with lunch.
While I don’t get the impression that teachers focus on school lunches over academic performance (I have some school teacher friends) they do know that having good meals improves students learning. I guess that you only see what you want to see though.
Seymour the Meddling Minister. He’s been undermining Stanford all along.
He pokes his nose into every corner of govt. like Musk pretending he knows what’s wasteful spending and what isn’t.
A pity he didn’t stop Nikki-No-Boats before she made her enormous mistake which she should be fired for.
A shame he didn’t stop the tax-cuts to the already wealthy before they happened.
That proves he has no intention of doing a proper job of finding ways to cut costs.
His wasteful charter schools get money while state schools plod along with the wrong Maths text books.
Why didn’t he foresee that problem before it happened, if he knows so much about schools,
education and children?
The school lunch mess is typical of someone with no idea of the practicalities of getting food ready on a large scale. He mistakenly thought BIG is GOOD and BIG will save money. What do we find? Wastage could be as high as 70%. We all think he probably wants to do away with school lunches completely so why didn’t he do that right at the start, instead of this excruciating process of ‘dumbing’ it all down first. Another waste of money.
If they weren’t trying to be so mean with ordinary NZders they could make sure everyone got paid enough and had enough time to get their own children’s lunches made in the mornings.
If this Minister of Meddling appeared to be doing it tough too, not demanding charter schools. not wanting to be deputy PM, speaking out against tax-cuts and dumping the ferry plan, not wanting the 6 month ToW undermining road trip, not expecting constant attention for his idiocy, we might have some respect for him.
He’s just a petty meddler who makes everyone’s job that much harder.
Look at me, Look at Me, Look at Me. Now, what do they call those people?
Great comment Joy although probably too many words for the usual right wing types to understand all at once.
I see eloquence punctuating the comments again, thank you stephen.
I see Bob the Knobs illiteracy punctuating the comments again, thank you stephen.
If G.S.T was exempted from essential food items,I’m sure more parents may be in a better position to make their children’s lunches.
