Can we just pause in the coverage of the Cook Islands political crisis to pay homage to Barbara Dreaver?
Without her journalism, we would not have known what the heel was going on in the Cooks.
There’s a bloody good reason she was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to investigative journalism and Pacific communities in 2024.
Bab’s is a god damned national cultural treasure!
Her body of work every single year marks her journalism and her ability to pull NZs attention towards the current affairs of the Pacific as the benchmark for Fourth Estate values in this country.
The range of issues Barbara Dreaver covers from natural disasters to geopolitical machinations to domestic internal dynamics, her spectrum and skill as a Journalist is true dedication to the craft.
She is such a humble person and her stories are always focused on the ignored voices.
We need her quality of journalism more than ever before.

Agree, Barbara is a dedicated and tenacious journalist with a long career. Not easy either being a woman in such a role in some parts of the Pacific.
