Experts fear entire international order is crumbling
An expert in international relations says the Ukraine and Gaza wars and other disruption could end up in the destruction of the whole international order.
The US and Russian Presidents talked overnight about ending the war in Ukraine.
Professor Richard Jackson of Otago University said Donald Trump added a whole new huge wildcard to global security.
“There’s so much instability and so much going on and … you know, his style and vision for the international system is so disruptive, I mean, I think we’re possibly seeing the kind of destruction and reconstruction of the entire sort of post-war international order,” Jackson said in a wide-ranging interview with RNZ about the mass of geopolitical risks New Zealand faces.
The frenetic speed of destruction Trump has instigated, throwing global networks and allies into distress is the calcified husk of Western hegemony imploding as Trump sets the might of America against any concept of solidarity or fraternity or leadership in favour of pure transaction on his inane terms.
We are seeing global disorder mutate into global disorder at a time of extreme climate change, brewing pandemics, AI existential threat and Elon fucking Musk.
It’s like the new four horsemen of the clusterfuckageddon.
Trump’s ruthless and venal deal making for dominance will make other Nations cower and hate America.
The Trade Wars will quickly become hot wars.
The old world order at least had order, this age of chaos is the harbinger of a far more damaged time on the planet.
After barely 3 weeks of madness, there is no way this gets ‘better’ over 4 years.
Trump is at heart a fascist who is prepared to manufacture a cult of personality to turn the Republic into the Authoritarian Christian Police State it has always prayed to be.
The democratic process is supposed to weed the kind of malformation Trump represents out from being considered by decent people, but when the American dream has become a nightmare for so many working class Americans, his brand of resentment is political dynamite against a system that has endlessly disappointed the poorest Americans.
We are inside the American Midnight now.
The likelihood of war has increased in just a month.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

On the upside, the first attempts at the welfare state and the UN were a result of a very nasty period of conflict. Nothing good seems to come out of excessive comforts. In comfort we got identity politics and cancel culture, while the homeless filled the doorways of our cities. The sad bit is that the already oppressed are the first in the firing line, while those who cause it sit back and play with themselves, refusing all reasonable pleas to see reality. Food, clothing, a job, a home – yes sure why not? Seven houses, married three times, disposable fashion, five supercars, and holidays every second week – probably gone too far mate!
Most geopolitical commentaries fly flags and are partisan or fully paid up. I have listened to Michael Hudson for years, despite his biases he is unerringly accurate on the bigger picture. Glenn Diesen, a Norwegian academic also gives refined commentary. Both state that we have reached a point where unipolarity is no longer possible and the economic hegemony of the G7 has been eclipsed.
