Auckland foodbanks face closure as government funding ends in 2025

  • Auckland foodbanks may close or reduce services after the Government indicated no funding next year.
  • City Missioner Helen Robinson warned of reducing food parcels from 50,000 to 20,000 annually.
  • Foodbanks and advocates urge ongoing government funding, citing increased demand and insufficient resources.

Nothing manages to encapsulate Late Stage Capitalism on a burning planet quite like shutting down Food Banks while actual Banks are making obscene wealth.

Another year of record profit for the NZ banking sector

Just a reminder that we are ruled by Corporations who hang above us like a Conclave of Nazgul…

…if the Left want to properly fund our social and physical infrastructure, they must tax the rich.

There are 14 Billionaires in NZ, and 3118 ultra-high net worth individuals worth $50million each, let’s start with them, then move onto the Banks, then the Property Speculators, the Climate Change polluters and big industry!

We need to be kinder to individuals and crueller to corporations

This is why the idealogical knife fight behind the scenes of Labour is so counterproductive.

On one side there are those who want a wealth tax aimed at the mega wealthy to enable the first $20 000 to be tax free.

This would benefit pensioners, beneficiaries, the poor, the working classes, the middle classes and renters.

It would take the tax yoke off the poor and put it on the wealthy.

The wealthy gain their wealth off the backs of civil society and the infrastructure that society provides.

They can pay more.

Opponents cry out that we can’t tax unrealised wealth. Like fuck we can’t.

If they can borrow against their wealth, we can sure as fuck tax it.

If this means the multi-millionaire and the billionaire have to sell assets to cover their wealth tax, so fucking be it.

Do anyone of you care if these rich pricks can’t buy the latest personal jet so we can feed hungry kids in school and build better hospitals with more staff?

Fuck them!

However.

The anti-wealth tax clique are doing all they can to kill off the wealth tax by putting forward a Capital Gains Tax.

It won’t make any money for 3 years, so just in time to have all the political benefit go to the Opposition while you struggle for a term.

There has always been a group inside Labour who would prefer to control the losing side rather than lose control of the winning side.

The naked reality is the economy is so fucked and the possibility of an inflation spike generated by Trump’s tariffs by pushing up the dollar and causing petrol to jump means far more pain is still to come.

Labour has to offer REAL relief to people or their solution will sound weak, just the way the pitiful GST off fruit and vegetables sounded like Labour didn’t understand their pain.

Giving Kiwis their first $20 000 tax free funded by a wealth tax on the 1% is fucking economic justice!

What the Christ is the point of the Labour Party if it isn’t there to challenge the economic hegemony used to crush the lower classes for a rancid Plutocracy!

STAND AND FIGHT LABOUR!

The truth is we need BOTH taxes.

We need a Wealth tax that will provide the first $20 000 Tax Free for every Kiwi – AND we need a Capital Gains Tax that doesn’t include the occupied home.

We also need a sugar tax to fund free dental.

We need a pollution tax to fund free public transport.

A financial transaction tax to punish speculators.

Take the tax yoke off the poor and place it on the uber wealthy.

Tax the 1% to enable everyone (them included) get their first $20 000 tax free.

A Capital Gains Tax is important, but it isn’t the solution.

After 2 more years of this crazy fucking Government, Kiwis will want a solution.

If Labour wants to win the Auckland middle class vote they lost to the Greens, it takes more than a Capital Gains Tax!

  1. The obvious move is to force the Supermarket duopoly to generously supply Foodbanks as a “social dividend” to atone slightly for their 365 day price gouging.

  2. The more Labour tax the more they spend on public servants and wasteful schemes. If the money went on looking after the poor it would not be bad but real little changed for the underdog in 6 years of Labour.

    • NZ is in recession confirmed today, the tax take is down, people are leaving the country. Tax is fundamental to govt revenue, the more people in work the more the money goes around. The National coalition austerity policies are strangling the economy and it is forecast to get worse. You conveniently forget Labour had to contend with a once in 100 years global pandemic and economic policies Labour had in place would have seen a less painful transition out of that global inflationary period.

    • More unfounded nonsense Trevor. Are there examples of wasteful spend from Labour sure, but no more than this bunch of idiots. The biggest spend from Labour was the wage subsidy which the likes of National supported anyway.

The billion on ditching three waters with no alternative, the ferry dumpster fire, Seymour bullshit spend deregulation and a non starting treaty unprincipled bill. To hear our idiot PM tell everyone we have got things on track is f’ing embarrassing

  3. Labour is not the only opposition party. Te Pati Maori have failed to be other than a divisive coterie of circus performers bringing Parliament into disrepute with their puerile antics and over-blown proselytising. If ever we needed displays of utterly useless hot air – which we don’t – that’s them. The Greens may be beyond redemption. Their tea towel addiction has been equally useless virtue signalling, and more so when kiwi kids don’t have dishes to wash when they’ve not got food to put on them.

Everyday New Zealanders now go from supermarket to supermarket comparing prices and cannot even bulk buy when genetically modified vegetables deteriorate quickly and cannot be safely stored the way they were in grandad’s day. These are things which few politicians are cognisant of.

Suggestion that supermarkets replenishing food banks for free is a very worthy one, but unfortunately the supermarkets are doing very nicely as they are. They don’t need the PR, and WW’s seems more concerned with woke-ism and, IMO, being champions of the trans community than it is with its broader customer base, and it’s own workers are being squeezed out of jobs by pushing customers to self-check, self-pack, and self pay.

Ardern ruled out CGT but it wasn’t a Papal Bull and she’s gone. Young Labour now attacking freedom of speech could do well to ponder whether they’re being as self-indulgent as the useless Maori and Green parties are, and could possibly achieve more by focusing on the common good.
