Urgent meeting sought over possible spike in bus, train fares
Public transport leaders have requested an urgent meeting with the Transport Minister over revenue targets that would mean a surge in bus, ferry and train fares.
Waka Kotahi NZTA has sent letters to local councils and transport authorities asking them to increase their private share — that is, the proportion of the total cost of providing public transport that comes from things other than rates or government funding.
The targets would have to be agreed to by December 19.
It would mean a Wellingtonian spending $10 a day on Metlink fares would have to spend $17 a day under the new rates.
On behalf of all public transport authorities besides Auckland Transport, Greater Wellington Regional Council Chair Daran Ponter has penned a letter to Transport Minister Simeon Brown.
The letter stated public transport authorities would like to meet with the minister under urgency and asked for the Government to pause the targets whilst collaborative research and testing could be done.
Ponter said public transport regional councils had “grave concerns” about the time to respond to the targets and the individual targets for each council.

The last election was a grudge fuck against Labour by a post-Covid electorate wanting revenge for the pandemic.

$3 BILLION for landlords has to come from some where so we will charge the bottom feeders more to get to school and work .And when they cant afford the fares and cant get to school or work we will arrest the parents and call the poor works fucken lazy .After all they can walk to work or school along the new roads we are building with no foot paths which will help raise the road toll and flood hospitals with maimed people .

Dis-incentivising public transport follows on from, scrapping climate mitigation funding, scrapping the EV subsidy, and restarting oil drilling. I propose an experiment of completely free public transport. Why not, if you’re going to give away a 2.9 $bil tax break to property investors, then seriously why not?

The CoC got caught trying to mitigate+reduce+obfuscate the Royal Commissions proposed redress system being implemented next year BEFORE they had even given the apology. Shows their clear priorities.
When the first thoughts for any sensible sane balanced person would be – how do we prevent further abuse in care? How do we protect people from being abused in care? How do we root out the decision makers still in the public sector who ignore abuse in care? How do we do all it takes to never have this happen again? How do we have a Public Service Commission that actually keeps an eye on things, instead of a blind eye?
Not, how do we minimise? How do we delay? How do we make this go away? These discussions at 26th August CoC meeting, would be similar to the discussions held by co-conspirators of major crime organisations plotting their next moves after being implicated, and now trying in vain to avoid culpability.
Maybe the ban on gang insignia, should be extended to the National party rosette?
