David Seymour’s glorious solution to all the race relation tensions in this country is a 4 page redefinition of the relationship between Māori and the Crown (with zero input from Māori) – why the Christ would Māoridom recognise any renegotiation of the Treaty relationship without them agreeing to it?
Why not do exactly as the Greens have argued and make this a conscience vote on the first reading?
Why not allow MPs to make up their own mind as to whether or not this appallingly divisive Bill that forces upon the indigenous minority the will of the colonising majority?
This Bill has no chance of passing, it will cost $4million dollars and will give ACT a 6 month political circus freak show that will allow David to launch a Citizens Initiated Referendum off the back of it. How stupid are National Party tacticians to allow it to go this far?
Prime Minister Chris Luxon was on Breakfast TV this week arguing that he is allowing this divisive political stunt through because that’s the reality of MMP, but that’s a nonsense defence because HE was the one who negotiated this deal to gain power, so it is his responsibility and it calls into question his supposed amazing deal negotiating skills that he was sold on!
The truth is Luxon is the weakest Prime Minister in NZ political history and he got played by David Seymour AND Winston Peters.
Luxon’s MMP excuse for Treaty Principles Bill is political cowardice personified, it was his desperation to gain power that blinded him to what ACT and NZF were going to do.

David Seymour’s claim that the debate (dispute, controversy, conflict, whatever) will be of value in itself is not without merit. You just had to be part of the hikoi ki te paremata for a few hours to see that. Thousands of people, tino rangatiratanga flags, whakaminenga flags, flags of every hapu and iwi, all in their place and not a single colonialist flag to be seen anywhere.
As a rule I prefer political analysis to vexillology but there are times in the life of a people when the flags in the streets and on the mountain tops express the mood of the nation. This is such a time for our people and our nation.
At the same time the debate goes on. The actions of the colonialist government are inviting us to look deeper into the meaning of rangatiratanga and the forms of te whakaminenga.

Don’t underestimate the prejudices of white people and other New Zealanders to save the day; of which whom are mostly ill prepared to have the conversation with the lack of unserstanding of history and facts about what happened to the Maori by the colonising Crown.
I expect more narrative manipulation efforts by Seymour’s donors and allies to twist fear in the mind of fence sitting and disenfranchised people similar to Trump. Bet on the publics ignorance is Seymours plans.
If you’ve looked at the trends overarching the last 12 months aside from the latest Roy Morgan poll. You would see National, ACT and NZ First have been relatively stabled despite major setbacks like losing the ferries, downgrading Dunedin hospital, repealing smoke-free, etc Their constiuents seem to be either apathetic or it doesn’t effect them and couldn’t care less if the working class, disabled or beneficiaries suffered.
If that many Right voters were unabated by the 12 months of heinous destruction of this country for the majority of NZers then it’s likely they’d also not care if the Treaty gets out of the way for them too.
I doubt Luxon will axe the bill at 2nd reading. Just like all the other rubbish he’s let New Zealanders suffer through. That guy doesn’t know how to run a country nor a business.
Make no mistake – this is exactly what luxury wants. Not even the worst ever businessman would have negotiated this deal if it wasn’t what they wanted, and he is the worst ever businessman.
Luxon is doing himself harm. People see him as weak and cowardly, having no moral compass, no understanding of our history and no wish to learn. Furthermore, no charm or engaging personality, just pompous and smug. Not much to recommend him.
He cannot blame things on the ‘MMP environment’. Why?
Does he really think Seymour would abandon the CoC if he was told to cease and desist? ‘Course not.
Is Seymour going to walk away from being DPM next year? Not likely.
Ambition is a nasty drug and they have all drunk deep. None of them are honest enough to walk away from advancement for their principles. They have none.
The right can blindly follow, uncaring and not listening to what’s happening. Sooner or later, they will be in the firing line and then suddenly it will hit them, what a stinky mess they have created.
