We simply do not comprehend how much danger we are in nor the existential threat climate change presents us with…
Trees and land absorbed almost no CO2 last year. Is nature’s carbon sink failing?
The sudden collapse of carbon sinks was not factored into climate models – and could rapidly accelerate global heating
…on the one hand we have catastrophic weather events exacerbated by climate change happening in NZ…
…and on the other hand we have a Government pimping for the climate change polluters…

…Shane Jones social media feed a ‘pick me’ culture war hot mess that would make Incels blush.
Look at this garbage:

…what?
Catastrophic Climate change and radical adaptation is our future, it’s not a green God, it’s basic science! The Daily Costs are getting worse because your Government borrowed $14billion for tax cuts we can’t afford while tilting the entire public service into a profit making user pays model that knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing!

Sobbing snowflakes? You mean Environmentalists who have issues with your donor class mining mates getting everything they want? The issue is your collaboration in taking our resources and hocks them off as cheaply as possible to blokes you have lush lunches with you bloated snowflake!

Do you think ‘stroking’ is a word you should throw around Shane?

And then there is this…

…what are you on bro?
You’re a bloody Grandfather, not the Godfather you bloated clown!
You are already the running joke for political corruption and here you are pretending to be the GodFather over a donor industry that you have deep connections with?
Are you saying that you are running a Mafia level organised crime racket over the marine industry?
Is that what you are saying?
Who is this garbage appealing to other than Shane’s mangled ego?
This is a Minister inside the Cabinet FFS posting like a sexually frustrated Incel out of his mum’s basement!
Look at the venal corruption on naked display here with donations for the Fast Track projects…
$500,000 in political donations associated with fast track projects
Companies and shareholders associated with 12 fast-track projects gave more than $500,000 in political donations to National, Act and New Zealand First and their candidates, RNZ analysis shows.
…this Government are hiding the ecological damage for their mining industry donor class behind Fast Track projects of genuine worth and hoping Kiwis are too fatigued to respond.
This is environmental vandalism masquerading as infrastructure at a time when the planet is burning and the biosphere collapsing!
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

I would take your concerns more seriously if your website were not funded by advertisers such as Temu encouraging me to buy goods I neither want nor need.
If you use the Brave or Duck Duck Go browser, you’ll never see another advert ever.
I highly recommend either one for your secure scrolling pleasure.
You could get an add blocker? Do you seriously expect Martyn to work for nothing or the internet services to be free? Your complaint has nothing to do with the article and seems more like an attempt by you to delay any changes required to live in a sustainable way.
You are happy to vote for a government funded by big business though .Same thing just different sponsors buying favours from government like realestate and tobacco companies .
While the Guardian article is interesting, it is not strictly correct.
Phytoplankton will simply die and fall to the ocean floor in any case, regardless of what happens to the zooplankton. The zooplankton might be a vital link in the food chain, but not essential for carbon capture.
But what is far more important is the formation of thermoclines as sea water temperatures rise. With the formation of thermoclines you get the separation of warm and cold water, divided by what amounts to a physical barrier.
Nutrients cannot cross this barrier, so over time the upper, warm, sunlit zone of the ocean becomes devoid of nutrients and so phytoplankton cannot survive. The main carbon sink in the world will disappear as CO2 and ocean temperatures rise.
You only need to go to the tropics and see the crystal clear waters to understand this phenomenon, there are no nutrients in the upper zones to support phytoplankton.
As ocean temperatures rise in temperate zones, like those surrounding NZ, the water will change from the current green to blue as phytoplankton disappear.
And the water temperature will rise from an average mixed 18 degrees to around 28 degrees on the surface and 10 degrees at depth.
All of this is just basic oceanography, and yet it never gets mentioned.
Things are far more serious than reported, we have already entered the positive feedback loop, higher sea temperatures mean more areas subject to thermocline, which means less phytoplankton and carbon sink, higher sea temps and so on.
The only joy is that the likes of the bloated one will burn along with the rest of us, there is zero chance they will have a base on Mars or the moon in time.
Their billions will not save them, nor will their bolthole in the Southern Alps.
The Mayor and two councillors at B.D.C who have bothered to respond to my calls and messages about the 24/7 coal trucks now going past my house in a dry run for Te Kuha, all gave the same answers in the same order in the exact same language saying – It’s frustrating, it’s a public highway and you’re shit out of luck. At least they didn’t put the phone down on me like one old fucker did.
Taking that every law or bylaw imposed can be also be reversed, I asked how as a resident/ratepayer I can I set that in motion and will they support the people, so far on record, I have 3 out of 7 Westport’s elected saying the rights of Bathurst and Hilton Haulage to make money override the well being and quality of life of hundreds of residents and ratepayers.
Asking if Te Kuha gets the go ahead, after the stock reply given by all three “I don’t think that’ll proceed”, not one of them would agree to oppose or support those affected by 10-15 years of day and night heavy goods traffic.
The mine has got control of this council which, shouldn’t really be a surprise, as they spent so much on the last general election.
One mayor and ‘three’ councillors who chose Bathurst making money over many hundred residents and ratepayers.
Counting the clown who put the phone down earlier and wouldn’t answer two follow up attempts, that’s over half of the Westport ward of Buller district council and it’s leader turning a blind eye as their constituents get fucked for money.
Makes them pimps, right?
If it mattered to the majority then Greens would be in power .Few really care as both main parties rely on growth to feed their promises . We could all go and exit like we did under the covid lock, down and wait until half of the population pass away out of boredom.
