Gaza Strip

Attacks: There are no safe places for the militarily-dominated population in Gaza, who find themselves subjected to airstrikes and other missile attacks on buildings, homes and many essential facilities, as well as constant gunfire and invasions by Israeli forces. The Israeli Navycontinues to fire missiles, targeting facilities and buildings along the entire Gaza shoreline.

Victims: 25 more people killed in Gaza now bring the total number of deaths, since 7 October, to at least 40,099. With another 72 wounded, that figure has risen to over 92,609. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 127, and that of those injured is now more than 293.

End game: What’s Israel’s plan in the Occupied West Bank?

Israel continues to expand settlements, with many politicians open about their desire to stop a Palestinian state. In the occupied West Bank, the war on Gaza has provided cover for continued Israeli violence and expansion. On Wednesday, Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced new plans to expand settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, ignoring international law and the International Court of Justice’s recent ruling that Israel’s continued presence there is unlawful. “No anti-Israel or anti-Zionist decision will stop the development of the settlement,” Smotrich, who leads the Religious Zionist Party and is himself a settler, said: “We will continue to fight against the dangerous idea of a Palestinian state. This is the mission of my life,” he continued on the same day that the Israeli military raided the West Bank cities of Hebron and Nablus.

In addition, Israel has been expanding illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, despite repeated international condemnation. Analysts told Al Jazeera that these actions are part of Israel’s larger plan to annex and ethnically cleanse a region it has been militarily occupying since 1967.

Leslie Bravery
Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!
