This is Chris Luxon’s second fail on selling beneficiary bashing – is he on an orange warning now?

PM Christopher Luxon’s second fumble on benefit numbers

    • The prime minister has mixed up his numbers in a TV interview about the government’s welfare changes
    • It marks the second misstep this week after Luxon was earlier unable to say how much a Jobseeker benefit was
    • Labour says it proves the prime minister is “removed from the reality” of those in poverty

Ummm, using the new Traffic Warning system for beneficiaries, isn’t this an orange warning for Luxon’s second lie?

Actually, it’s more than 2 lies now…

…so he’s lied 4 times, shouldn’t he have some sanction on his benefit now?

How can Luxon get away with bare faced lies and not get challenged on it?

Could anyone imagine if Jacinda had lied like this 4 times in a row?

  1. Why would he need to know .The amount is not set by cabinet and the amount one person gets is made up of many variables. The main thing is that both sides treat each other with respect and follow the rules. In my case I discovered I was being short paid by thousands.
I was a full time carer for my wife.I am white and know how to relate to people and not easily dominated but the experience of dealing with Winz was horrible and I worry for those not so articulate .

  2. Past surveys of National Party voters revealed the majority of them did not personally know a person on unemployment benefit. What do TDB people think is the likelihood of Baldrick having ever read the WEAG Report or talked to a beneficiary Advocate or actual unemployed person? Non existent in my view.

As a prosperity Christian, 7 pads Luxury Luxon barely registers the reality of those he terms “bottom feeders”. They are useful only to claw back a bit of state expenditure via cruel clampdowns and for some sport for his self righteous vindictive supporters.

  3. Unfortunately if you lie often enough and the media don’t hammer you for it you just get away with it.

  4. I cannot work out why a ‘tough on crime’ government’ wants to force people to steal and cheat to survive and still believe it will reduce crime.
Back when the Listener, still did good Investigative Journalism, it found Social Welfare staff calculated individual benefits on what it cost to feed, house and clothe one prisoner.
This, I believe, betrays the mindset that already criminalises beneficaries.
Additionally MSD is capable of amazing inefficiency. I was a beneficiary who had my benefit cut without notice or warning.
I reported to my local office who, after a week, said my benefit was re-instated. They did not know why someone in Wellington stopped it, nor were they interested in finding out.
On another occasion I was told I had not made myself available for an MSD interview that I knew nothing about(it turned out nobody told me about it).
    E kati, enough said.

    • Because then you force the poors into crime, from where you can come down hard on them with the law.
Most poor people are decent and not criminals though so they’ll mostly be alright

  5. Luxon should have got the red light at the election .However Kiwis are so fucken racist they did not look at the hate these fuckers were whipping up .
LOOK daa maori are stealing the water
LOOK daa maori are stealing health
LOOK daa maori are stealing the beaches
LOOK daa maori want their land back
NZ voters are weak as piss and so fucken entitled they are so busy fucken over the Maori they have allowed the country to suffer the Asian invasion .

  6. Bob the first thinks lying is sensible policy. Forget what the actual facts are just praise the lord and talk bs.

  7. What’s now clear to all but the deluded is that Luxon is lazy…

He doesn’t do the many hours of reading required to keep abreast of all the information that he, as prime minister, needs to know and understand…
If he had been in charge when Covid struck, N.Z would have ended up being like the U.K…like the U.S…. in a complete shambles.

How can Luxon get away with his endless clusterfuckeries.. easy…
Cut down on the amount of times that he exposes himself to tge media…no more parliament foyer standups…alot less podium question time appearances…and so and so on..

Remember, during the election, how he refused to debate Chippy in Christchurch when the opportunity presented itself, after getting thrashed in the other debates.

This guy’s a coward, doesn’t know what he’s doing, is out of his depth and hides at every opportunity….what is his end game, one has to ask….i don’t think even he
    knows the answer to that..

The media?… well, where have all the completely impartial, professional journalists gone…we have, just as one example, a senior political tv.journalist whose husband manages the ACT Party…is that appropriate one might ask?

Luxon will continue to get away with being hopelessly incompetent while some , not all, of the media get away with being hopelessly incompetent.. that is the sad reality!!

  8. It’s a fair assumption that most beneficiaries do not vote National. Why would Luxon then bother about the minutiae of what beneficiaries might not now be getting from the state. As long as it’s a saving (and he will know how much that is) he will consider his job done. Of course he’s out of touch with the poor but so are a lot of people who have a job.

  9. The media is owned by the top 1%. The top 1% make large ‘donations’ to the government. Together they both get to spread whatever misinformation assist their agendas. Until all donations are banned the government will continue to favour the 1% and not fairly represent all the people they are paid the represent.

  10. Looking to the future, we also need to psychologically prepare ourselves for that moment when Luxon is bestowed a knighthood, a la “sir” John Key.
