Israel’s Daily Toll on Palestinian Life, Limb, Liberty and Land
08:00, 14 August until 08:00, 15 August 2024

Gaza Strip
Attacks: There are no safe places for the militarily-dominated population in Gaza, who find themselves subjected to airstrikes and other missile attacks on buildings, homes and many essentialfacilities, as well as constant gunfire and invasions by Israeli forces. The Israeli Navy continues to fire missiles, targeting facilities and buildings along the entire Gaza shoreline.
Victims: 40 more people killed in Gaza now bring the total number of deaths, since 7 October, to at least 40,005. With another 107 wounded, that figure has risen to over 107. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 40,005 and that of those injured is now more than 92,401.
The number of people killed in Israel’s war on the people of Gaza over the past 312 days is now over 40,000. During more than five years of the Second World War, the total number of Londoners killed in the Nazi Blitz and later rocket and other missile strikes, was less than 30,000.
Initial Euro-Med Monitor investigation finds no evidence of
military presence at site of Tab’een School massacre in Gaza
Initial investigations by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor found no proof or indication of any military operations or combatants at the Tab’een School in Gaza City, whose prayer hall Israel targeted in a brutal massacre that claimed the lives of over 100 Palestinians. Quite the contrary, the location turned out to be a series of narrow buildings, with sections open to each other and lacking any equipment, where dozens of Palestinian families had taken refuge after being forcibly displaced from their homes, some of which have since been completely erased from the civil registry.
The Euro-Med Monitor field and legal team carried out a survey and preliminary investigation at the Tab’een School, which was providing shelter to over 2,500 displaced people in Gaza City. The team gathered data, recorded the statements of witnesses and survivors, and surveyed the location following the attack. According to all available information and testimonies, there were no military gatherings or centres at the school, and it was never used for military objectives. Survivors testified that the school was providing shelter to hundreds of children whose families felt safe there. The Israeli bombing specifically targeted the prayer hall where displaced people were praying at dawn, as well as the upper prayer hall used for housing women and children. Preliminary reports indicate that the Israeli army detonated three US-made bombs in the attack, which had a tremendous capacity to burn, melt, and destroy bodies. As a result, over 100 Palestinians were killed, including several families, and prominent academic figures at the universities of Gaza, among them Professor Youssef Al-Kahlout, an Arabic language professor.
The Israeli army’s defence of the massacre, on the grounds that the army was targeting a military site, is unfounded, and in any case, cannot justify the killing of so many civilians. Israel continues to kill, burn, and injure hundreds of civilians and then claim that the targeted areas contained military installations or leaders, without offering concrete proof.
US approves $20bn–worth of weapons sales to Israel
Bulk of the sale is dominated by F-15 fighter jets but also includes tank cartridges and army vehicles. On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken approved a new batch of arms sales to Israel, totalling over $20bn in military equipment, according to the Pentagon. In a statement, the Pentagon said, “The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defence capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives.” This multibillion-dollar package is the latest in a series of arms deals that Israel is set to receive from the US, adding to the $14bn in additional military aid approved earlier this year.
The sale comes amid mounting criticism of the Biden administration for continuing to authorise arms transfers to Israel despite the death toll in Gaza approaching more than 40,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Since Israel’s war on Gaza began last October, Israeli forces have destroyed much of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, mosques, and UN shelters. The weapons sales to Israel come despite the International Criminal Court (ICC) seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on the grounds of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel scrambling to delay ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant
Israel is attempting to delay the issuing of arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. According to Haaretz, Israeli officials and legal experts said that the government is exerting diplomatic pressure to delay the process, hoping that the judges would take weeks to issue the warrants, although it could come just days after reviewing the documents.
