The appalling abuse of 200 000 kids in State care has forced New Zealand to confront truths about ourselves that we refuse to acknowledge.
Likewise the blitzkrieg of hard right racist climate denying beneficiary bashing policy being rammed through:
- Racist attack on local council Māori wards
- Cancelling Māori Health Authority
- Manufacturing public health crisis to justify cut backs.
- Repealing OT legislation forcing interaction with Iwi so they can green lighting a mass new tsunami of uplifts for Social Investment Bog Data investment.
- Throwing 50 000 beneficiaries off welfare including the disabled and drug addicts.
- Promising cancer patients 14 new drugs and only funding half of them for twice the price.
- Cancelling the Ferry’s only to spend more money for less Ferry!
- Rigging Charter schools
- Privatisation agenda in social housing
- Allowing property developers to create urban sprawl ghettos.
- Giving Chris Bishop, Simeon Brown and Dr Pork Shane Jones the power of Muldoon on meth with the Fast Track Powers!
- Taking $3billion from climate change funds.
- Allowing corporate dairy to avoid paying for their pollution.
- Pushing 17000 kids into poverty to pay for tax cuts we can’t afford.
- Dumping 3 waters to allow water rates to spike.
- Military Boot Camps that don’t work.
- Gutting public transport.
- Allowing Newshub to fall over so there is less scrutiny of policy.
- Allowing the donor calls to dictate policy.
- Bending over backwards for the Tobacco Industry, Mining Industry and Real Estate Pimps
- Allowing bosses to sack workers and Landlords to kick out renters
- Getting NZ into Americas latest military adventure in the Red Sea
- Tough on crime posturing that creates counter productive outcomes
- Massive cuts to public spending that will become austerity next year.
This all forces us to confront the reality that NZ is just a racist, vicious right wing Country that abuses the poor while worshipping the rich.
Hey, I don’t like it anymore than you do, but we have to be honest about the anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-Environment, anti-Renter, anti-Worker agenda at play here.
We have to recognise the International Far Right Think Tanks at work and their astroturf domestic clients.
The OECD warned us that corporate influence was writing out laws and we didn’t listen.
The NZ Left need to look at how the French Left used strategic voting to beat the Far Right ion we have any hope of reversing the toxic politics of the Right.
Meanwhile the planet is melting, cost of living at 5.4% and economy is plunging.
“country” LOL
VERY SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS .
Next the red necks will strike out the Royal commision recomendations on abuse as they will need to divert money from the tobacco and land lord lobby groups who will need to pay back all the tax breaks they have been given .The rich who have benefited from this racist abuse must now be made to pay for their greed and abuse of so called privalege
The headline is 100% correct although this has only occurred in the past 12 months, of that there is no debate.
Life’s a bitch and then you die
How sad!
You must have a lot of friends.
speak for yourself – my life has been wonderous
Seems like poor Marshall is on his/her own.
If thinks we’re do great after 6 years of Labour in charge why did they lose the election and recent polls show they would lose again.
I do not 100% agree with what the current co government especially the moves forced on National by its partners but on the whole we are moving in the right direction
No this has been background nz for decades.
Well you could certainly say we are stupid country, caught up in a “number eight wire” delusion.
that’s because it’s all high tensile fragility these days. I have a stash of number eight wire – but I’m not sharing
I agree with you on public transport but the rest is open to discussion as to the outcome .
While I agree that the left needs to use strategic voting the recent example of 3 snowflakes in the Greens resigning over the party seeking accountability over Darleen Tana is proof enough that feelings are stronger than evidence for too many people (on all sides of politics) which makes achieving a lasting solution almost impossible. The other problem is that people almost always think that any success they have is fully deserved & do not like the idea of any form of help to those they consider as undeserving of support.
Bonnie the christian going on about evidence over feelings – hallelujah.
Colonialism is alive and well in NZ. The old boomers can’t quite shake off the shackles of the past aided and abetted by their champion government. Luxon is the worst of the lot because he is letting it happen under his watch all for power. He is the laziest do nothing PM ( if you can call him that ).
So accurate!
PM – do you mean Post Mortem?
1984 I lived in Canada for 5 years came home about the 1990s and I was shocked at the level of anti-Maori sentiment existed in a small nation! The backwardness of NZ society towards their indigenous population was on a different level of spite than what I experienced in Montreal Quebec towards their native population. As a Maori I can bare witness that NZ is a racist country which was brought to our shores by pakeha. This whole stick by a significant pakeha population that Maori are racist towards them just doesn’t hold water playing the victim card when they hold all the stolen wealth.
This is racist NZ legacy perpetrated by Europeans claiming to be victims of Maori solidarity wanting their country back stolen in the 1800s 160 years ago.
Free Aotearoa
Yep, NZ is full of poor me’s and wannabes who can’t stand the fact that Maori have a turangawaewae and whakapapa intrinsically linked to whenua. They have a chip on their shoulder and cling to a nostalgia that is 14000 km’s away. I learned early on in life to avoid these types of people.
Agreed.
Truths about ourselves that we refuse to acknowledge … the biggest elephant in the room = ongoing and planned ignoring of the colonial wrongs of our past. This includes the theft and illegal acquisition of land Maori did not want to part with following the Treaty and imposition of laws that allowed the tyranny of the majority (after 1860). Notably, this could not occur until settler numbers were about the same as the local indigenous population.
Unless we can accept the level of damage is reflected in negative Maori social and health data – we cannot move forward. We bang on about being multicultural – but this is a facade given that we have never embraced the biculturalism promised by the Treaty.
Ok, we accept. Now let’s move forward.
” Maybe we need to accept NZ is just a racist, vicious right wing Country that abuses the poor while worshipping the rich? ” I think your statement @ MB has a lot more truth to it than many would care to admit.
As a farmer I once had a farm and I knew other farmers and frankly, the truth is, the smartest country kids went on to University then developed a liking for culture, parties, drugs, sex and sundry other normal human pastimes leaving the dullest minds back in the paddocks producing goods for an invisible few to export once having become extravagant when ballooning up the price of the agri-goods the got for almost nothing.
The problem with those particular, shall we say nuanced lifestyles is that those left hoeing down on the farm were easy pickings for their money while the adventurous intelligent ones found a niche` market within the realms of lying and manipulating. Political, legal, accounting, real estate, the share market, you name it. Anything that didn’t require a conscience or an audit and so there they were, and are, to this day.
Our post colonial economy is entirely corrupted. Our modern lives are an abstraction, a myth, a fallacy born of greed and all bound together with bullshit and jelly beans. https://teara.govt.nz/en/object/42273/cover-of-bullshit-and-jellybeans-by-tim-shadbolt
I agree we are not multicultural and historically Maori were wronged by the colonialists and it is sad for them but throughput history countries have been invaded and the natives suffered .
In the UK there were Viking ,Roman’s,Normans and it could have been Germany but we won fortunately. But each wave caused great pain and lose but eventually people intermarriaged and got on with live.
There are many people here now who arrived after being forced to leave their country of birth with little money but through hard work have made a new successful life for their family. Maori have more to work with than these people so instead of trying to progress by righting the wrongs of the past start
afresh and build a new future based on their strong historical experiences.
Well said Bob (the Real).
Agreed
Well, Brand NZ INC will be taking an international hit – look at what is written about our beloved leaders here:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jul/29/maori-leaders-new-zealand-coalition-government-policy-changes
Similar to how our farmers and loggers will soon be punished by consumers, unethical leadership inevitably results in poor outcomes.
” The NZ Left need to look at how the French Left used strategic voting to beat the Far Right ion we have any hope of reversing the toxic politics of the Right. ”
Hooray Bomber you are almost there.
Once you grasp the inescapable fact that this magical left that died with the Alliance in 2002 is not going to re invent itself with the intelligence to use strategic voting , something that has never really ever been grasped since MMP fooled everyone with its promise to be more representative and prevent the ongoing plunge to the bottom of the trench than FPP.
Only Maori who used their electorate option and party vote came close.
When they work out MMP fully their people will understand that their party vote is just as powerful for only them in a tightly contested vote.
That’s when MMP actually works.
Nothing can be achieved for those who would benefit from a vote for a left alternative that concentrates on a plan and polices that doesn’t care about your identity but has a plan and will fight for policies that will represent real left ideals by real grassroots people who want to fight and empower so many of our people from the onslaught and removal of their rights to safe affordable housing , health , education , financial security for when they retire , their right to not be exploited and a fairer tax system to name a few.
Until then we are the viscous , racist , entitled right wing state that now exists as long as we allow it to.
These same conditions existed and were fought against by the French peasants’ that ushered in the French revolution.
Lets get the facts right as the bullshit on health cutbacks by this appalling Government is clear for all to see…
Last week, Apa said said overspending in public health had been the result of a successful recruitment drive for nurses. On Monday, Luxon continued to blame “back office” workers and a “botched merger” for the overspend.
After Luxon hit out at those “14 layers” of management beside Reti last week, the Government was unable to prove those layers existed.
Labour Party health spokesperson Dr Ayesha Verrall said the Government should open the books if Te Whatu Ora is in such peril.
“Last week the Government began to claim that Health New Zealand faced a deficit in March, but official financial statements published two weeks ago said otherwise,” Verrall said.
“The Government hasn’t got its story straight. The prime minister said he knew of overspends in October, Minster Reti said he knew in late March. We need to see the books to know which version is true.”
https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/07/29/no-on-site-doctors-overnight-at-northland-hospital-amid-staff-shortage/
Fucking disgraceful. Reti and his government did a lot of bitching and moaning in opposition and promised the world. What did we get? The destruction of the health system that Labour were making improvements in.
New Zealanders are fair-minded people, but identity politics makes everyone on a spectrum of extreme left to extreme right a victim of anyone they choose. Class politics was much better because it concentrated on issues. I could agree with Sue Bradford on one issue and agree with Chester Borrows on another. The current crop of under 40 somethings are a nightmare.
Maybe donations to National have an effect.
